The Police publicó “Roxanne” como el primer sencillo de su álbum debut “Outlandos d’Amour”. La canción fue escrita desde el punto de vista de un hombre que se enamora de una trabajadora sexual. El título proviene del nombre del personaje de la obra Cyrano de Bergerac, que Sting vio en un cartel viejo que estaba colgado en el vestíbulo de un hotel, en París, Francia, donde el grupo se hospedó. La canción no llegó a las listas, pero, cuando se relanzó en 1979, alcanzó el puesto # 12, en las UK Charts singles.

The Police released “Roxanne” as the first single from their debut album “Outlandos d’Amour”. The song was written from the point of view of a man who falls in love with a sex worker. The title comes from the name of the play’s character Cyrano de Bergerac, which Sting saw on an old poster hanging in the lobby of a hotel in Paris, France, where the group stayed. The song did not chart, but, when re-released in 1979, it peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Charts.
