Influidos por su tradición góspel y artistas soul, cosecharon éxitos como «I Heard It Through the Grapevine», «If I were Your Woman», «It Should Have Been Me», «The End of Our Road» o «Friendship Train».
En 1973, lanzó su mayor éxito en Motown, «Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)», y poco después abandonaron la discográfica para firmar con Buddah.

Biography:
During his first decades in music, he formed the group Gladys Knight & The Pips with his brother Merald Knight and two of his cousins. They made their first top 10 in 1961 with the song Every Beat of My Heart, which was heavily influenced by doo wop.
They signed with the companies Fury and Maxx, and released the singles “Letter Full of Tears” and “Giving Up,” but it was not until they signed for Motown in 1966 that their great success came. Influenced by their gospel tradition and soul artists, they reaped hits such as “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, “If I Were Your Woman”, “It Should Have Been Me”, “The End of Our Road” or “Friendship Train”.
In 1973, he released his biggest Motown hit, “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye),” and soon after they left the label to sign with Buddah.
After this time, he separated more and more from the group and moved towards other genres such as easy listening and quiet storm, without losing his gospel essence, a line in which he still maintains today. In the mid-1990s he achieved greater notoriety with a duet with Frank Sinatra.
In 2005 he released One Voice, a gospel album in which The Saints Unified Voices collaborates and with which he managed to place himself at the top of the genre charts. A year later, in October 2006, he returns with an album in which he honors the most classical jazz with songs by Duke Ellington and Gershwin among others, entitled Before me.
