Terrence Parsons, conocido como Matt Monro, fue un cantante inglés de música popular

Comenzó su carrera cantando en anuncios de televisión y con una cuantas orquestas británicas (entre ellas, la Orquesta de Cyril Stapleton) a comienzos de los años cincuenta. Terrence Parsons, known as Matt Monro, was an English singer of popular music

He began his career singing in television commercials and with a few British orchestras (including the Cyril Stapleton Orchestra) in the early 1950s. After a few recordings for various companies, he signed with Decca for a standards album entitled Blue and Sentimental (1957).

A year later his career reached a pivotal moment when producer George Martin asked him to lend his voice for a Peter Sellers album, Songs for Swingin ‘Sellers, in which various Sinatra songs were satirized. Monro’s contribution, “You Keep Me Swingin ‘”, landed him a contract for Parlophone, and he reached number three on the UK charts with his 1960 song “Portrait of My Love.” Other successful songs were “My Kind of Girl” (which would be his first hit in the United States) and “Softly, As I Leave You”.

In 1962 he published an album for Parlophone, Matt Monro Sings Hoagy Carmichael, with great repercussion, although it would be his interpretation of the theme for the James Bond film that would make him known around the world. His next track, “Walk Away,” peaked at number four in Britain and entered the top twenty in America.

He represented the United Kingdom at the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 2nd place with the song I love the little Things.

In 1965 he became the first artist to cover the Beatles song “Yesterday.” He moved to the United States and began lavishing himself in nightclubs and recording sporadically during the 1970s. His 1980 album Heartbreaker placed him back in the musical environment but his health deteriorated and he died of cancer five years later.
