After her cinematic beginnings in England, especially in the movie Blow Up, she began a career in France where she met her future mentor, composer and partner, Serge Gainsbourg. One of her early collaborations with Gainsbourg, the 45 rpm Je t’aime … moi non plus, became an international hit and reached No. 1 in the UK.

In the 1970s, she became an actress recognized by the general public by performing comedies by Claude Zidi and later Michel Audiard. She subsequently appeared in various commercials.
