Biography

Nick Kamen (Harlow, Essex, England, April 15, 1962) -born Nicholas Ivor Kamen- is an English singer, songwriter and model. Since childhood he felt a great attraction to music instilled by his older brother who was a guitarist and close collaborator with Bryan Ferry. Later, and with the support of her father, she moved to London to start as a model, and later, at the age of 17, she moved to New York and continued in the world of fashion, although her true passion was music. Being in America he begins to compose some songs with the help of some musician friends.

Fame came to him with an advertisement for “Levis 501” pants in 1985. The spot lasted 30 seconds, but it was enough to radically change his life. Said advertisement took place in a laundromat set in the 50s where Nick washed his pants, staying in boxer shorts before the astonished gaze of other customers.

His fame grew day by day throughout the world until it reached the ears of Madonna, who decided together with Stephen Bray to compose his first song in which he also participated in the choirs.

It was “Each Time You Break My Heart”, followed in 1987 by the album entitled “Nick Kamen” (debut album), which would be his first musical success.

After the collaboration with Madonna, the rumor of a possible sentimental relationship between the two arose. Although at that time Nick had a relationship with the top model Talisa Soto with whom he would star in the video clip “Nobody Else”.

Later came his second album “Us” (1988) produced by Pat Leonard and the collaboration of great artists such as Roxy Music or Madonna herself.

It was followed in 1990: “Move Until We Fly” which contained the theme “I Promised Myself”, the most famous of his songs. And he continued his musical career with the albums “Each Time You Break My Heart” (1991) and “Whatever, Whenever” (1992).

In addition, some other musical facts should be highlighted, such as the collaboration on the soundtracks of the films “Dick Tracy” and “Cariño, He Shrunk A Los Niños” (“Honey, I Shrunk The Kids”).

In 2004 a new remix of “I Promised Myself” was released. As for his relationships, he was the boyfriend of Talisa Soto, Tatiana Patitz and in 2001 he met his current partner Amanda de Cadenet.
