Es un pianista, compositor y arreglista que tuvo un gran éxito por su versión para discoteca de La quinta sinfonía de Beethoven, una adaptación con unos pasajes de la original, en 1976 cuando la música disco estaba en su auge, también es conocido por ser junto a Ron Jones autor del tema de inicio de la serie Padre de familia.
Murphy nació en la ciudad de Nueva York, capital del estado de Nueva York, y se crió en Manhattan. Fue a la escuela de música de Manhattan donde estudió jazz y piano clásico. Después de acabar sus estudios, actuó como arreglista para Doc Severinsen y el Tonight Show Band, antes escribía música jingle. Murphy fue el líder de una banda llamada WAM en inicios de los 70 donde tocó en el NYC tristate area. Biography
He is a pianist, composer and arranger who had great success for his disco version of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, an adaptation with a few passages from the original, in 1976 when disco music was at its peak, he is also known for being together Ron Jones author of the opening theme for the Family Guy series.
Murphy was born in New York City, the capital of New York State, and raised in Manhattan. He went to the Manhattan music school where he studied jazz and classical piano. After finishing his studies, he performed as an arranger for Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, previously writing jingle music. Murphy was the leader of a band called WAM in the early 70’s where he played in the NYC tristate area. It was a poorly successful group compared to Tower of Power, they used to play R&B and Soulcover music.
They played frequently at a club in New Rochelle called Pearly’s. Another group that he played in the same venue was the Billy Vera Band. In the early 70s, Murphy became interested in adaptations of classical music to disco music and began to edit his hits, after seeing two songs of different genres based on the music of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach, Joy by Apollo 100 and “A Lover’s Concerto” by The Toys; became popular. He tried to recreate the success and Murphy made a demo cassette with disco adaptations of a variety of classical and neo classical music and sent it to all the record labels in New York.
