Los Boomtown Rats obtuvieron su segundo sencillo número uno en el Reino Unido con “I Don’t Like Mondays”. Bob Geldof escribió la canción después de leer un informe sobre el tiroteo de Brenda Ann Spencer, de 16 años, que disparó contra niños que jugaban en el patio de una escuela al otro lado de la calle de su casa en San Diego, California. Mató a dos adultos e hirió a ocho niños y a un oficial de policía. Spencer no mostró remordimiento por su crimen, y su explicación completa de sus acciones fue “No me gustan los lunes, esto anima el día”.

The Boomtown Rats scored their second U.K. No. 1 single with, “I Don’t Like Mondays”. Bob Geldof wrote the song after reading a report on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children playing in a school playground across the street from her home in San Diego, California. She killed two adults and injured eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime, and her full explanation for her actions was “I don’t like Mondays, this livens up the day.”
