Frances Anne Rafferty nació en Sioux City, Iowa, hija de Maxwell Lewis Rafferty, Sr., y la ex DeEtta Frances Cox Rafferty.
Firmada por MGM Studios, Rafferty hizo su debut cinematográfico en 1942. Apareció en papeles menores y secundarios, y aunque participó en la película Dragon Seed de 1944 con Katharine Hepburn y Walter Huston , sus papeles importantes se limitaron casi exclusivamente a «B » películas. Por ejemplo, en 1948 actuó junto a Hugh Beaumont en la película de Film Noir , Money Madness , dirigida por Sam Newfield . Rafferty appeared on several different television shows throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Among them were two guest appearances on Perry Mason. She played Heather Marlow in «Never Look Back», season 4, episode 18, installment of My Three Sons in 1964.
After his retirement from acting in 1965, he made one final appearance in a 1977 episode of Karl Malden’s ABC drama, The Streets of San Francisco.
