Tyrone Edmund Power Jr. nació en Cincinnati (estado de Ohio) el 5 de mayo de 1914. Era hijo de actores irlandeses con una gran trayectoria en las tablas. En su infancia, Tyrone fue muy enfermizo, y su madre, «Patia» Power (nacida Helen Emma Reaume), fue su gran apoyo, ya que su padre, Tyrone Power, Sr., se ausentaba debido a sus actuaciones en Nueva York.
Tyrone Jr. se inscribió en la escuela de arte dramático en Nueva York y sus comienzos fueron en el teatro, antes de que el cine le tentara en 1930. Por esa fecha, su padre, Tyrone Power, le ofreció ser guía de su carrera dramática, terminándose así un distanciamiento de larga duración. Se convirtió en estrella de cine a fines de los años 1930 y principios de los años 1940. Trabajó para los estudios cinematográficos Twentieth Century Fox como la respuesta de este estudio a Errol Flynn, la estrella de la competidora Warner Brothers.
Participó en medio centenar de filmes de época y se destacó por encarnar eficazmente papeles dramáticos y románticos. Biography and career
Tyrone Edmund Power Jr. was born in Cincinnati (state of Ohio) on May 5, 1914. He was the son of Irish actors with a great career on the stage. In his childhood, Tyrone was very sickly, and his mother, «Patia» Power (born Helen Emma Reaume), was his great support, as his father, Tyrone Power, Sr., was absent due to his performances in New York.
Tyrone Jr. enrolled in drama school in New York and his beginnings were in the theater, before the cinema tempted him in 1930. At that time, his father, Tyrone Power, offered to guide his dramatic career , thus ending a long-term distancing. He became a movie star in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He worked for Twentieth Century Fox film studios as this studio’s answer to Errol Flynn, the star of competitor Warner Brothers.
He participated in fifty period films and was noted for effectively embodying dramatic and romantic roles. His pleasant masculine appearance was accompanied by a great sensitivity and warmth that, added to his great interpretive versatility, allowed him to sit among the great classic actors of the cinema. He performed various extra roles from 1932 to 1935. His first lead roles in 1936 were as a heartthrob and he became known for having great appeal and a warm character.
Death
He died prematurely, at just 44 years of age, of a heart attack in Madrid, on November 15, 1958, while filming the movie Salomón y la reina de Saba, alongside Gina Lollobrigida.
