Su verdadero nombre era Anita Louise Fremault, y nació en Nueva York. Debutó en la interpretación a los seis años de edad, en el teatro de Broadway, y un año después ya actuaba con regularidad en el cine hecho en Hollywood, California. Siendo todavía adolescente era elegida para interpretar tanto papeles secundarios como principales en producciones de envergadura.
Al ganar estatus en Hollywood, fue elegida como una de las WAMPAS Baby Stars, y se la describía con frecuencia como una de las más elegantes actrices de cine del momento. Su reputación se consolidó por su papel en la sociedad hollywoodiense, participando en las fiestas de la élite social, con gran repercusión en los medios periodísticos.
Entre sus éxitos en el cine destacan Madame Du Barry (1934), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1935), The Story of Louis Pasteur (La tragedia de Louis Pasteur) (1935), Anthony Adverse (El caballero Adverse) (1936), Marie Antoinette (1938), The Sisters (las hermanas) (1938), y The Little Princess (La pequeña princesa) (1939).

Her real name was Anita Louise Fremault, and she was born in New York. He made his acting debut at the age of six, in the Broadway theater, and a year later he was already acting regularly in movies made in Hollywood, California. While still a teenager, she was chosen to play both supporting and leading roles in major productions.
Upon gaining status in Hollywood, she was cast as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars, and was frequently described as one of the most stylish film actresses of the day. His reputation was consolidated by his role in Hollywood society, participating in the parties of the social elite, with great repercussion in the journalistic media.
His film successes include Madame Du Barry (1934), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1935), The Story of Louis Pasteur (1935), Anthony Adverse (The Gentleman Adverse) (1936), Marie Antoinette (1938), The Sisters (1938), and The Little Princess (1939).
In the 1940s he only acted in small roles and infrequently, until the advent of television in the 1950s gave him greater opportunities. In this medium, one of his best-known interpretations was that of his mother in the series My Friend Flicka, between 1956 and 1958.
After this series he virtually retired. Her husband, film producer Buddy Adler, passed away in 1960, and Anita Louise died of a stroke in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 55. She was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
