The Police released \u201cRoxanne\u201d as the first single from their debut album \u201cOutlandos d’Amour\u201d. The song was written from the point of view of a man who falls in love with a sex worker. The title comes from the name of the play’s character Cyrano de Bergerac, which Sting saw on an old poster hanging in the lobby of a hotel in Paris, France, where the group stayed. The song did not chart, but, when re-released in 1979, it peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Charts.<\/p>\n
