Cantante ecuatoriano, nacido en Guayaquil el primero de octubre de 1935 y muerto all\u00ed mismo en 1978. Conocido con los sobrenombres de El Ruise\u00f1or de Am\u00e9rica y M\u00edster Juramento, es considerado el m\u00e1s grande cantante de su pa\u00eds en todos los tiempos.<\/div>\n

Habiendo perdido a su padre cuando apenas contaba con seis a\u00f1os de edad, su madre trabaj\u00f3 como enfermera para mantenerlo. Julio fue muy enfermizo durante su infancia: padeci\u00f3 bronconeumon\u00eda, difteria, disenter\u00eda, y hasta tuvo principio de par\u00e1lisis infantil. Junto con Pepe, su hermano mayor, y contra la voluntad de su madre, comenz\u00f3 a cantar en casa del m\u00fasico Toapanta. Realiz\u00f3 sus estudios en la Filantr\u00f3pica y en una Escuela fiscal, bajo la direcci\u00f3n del maestro Lauro D\u00e1vila, precisamente autor del pasillo Guayaquil de mis amores.<\/div>\n

Terminada la primaria, se emple\u00f3 en una zapater\u00eda de calzado para mujer, y luego como barnizador de muebles. A los diecisiete a\u00f1os ya era conocido por su hermosa y c\u00e1lida voz, y participaba en programas de Radio C\u00f3ndor.<\/div>\n

En 1950 se uni\u00f3 con dos amigos y se dieron a recorrer los pueblos de Esmeraldas y Manab\u00ed, cantando en tr\u00edo. En alguna oportunidad se vio obligado a volver a su oficio de zapatero para sobrevivir.<\/div>\n

A pesar de los reproches, castigos, l\u00e1grimas y ruegos de su madre, no fue capaz de dejar su vida bohemia y parrandera. El salto a la fama se dio en 1955 con su vals Fatalidad, pues la grabaci\u00f3n de esta canci\u00f3n marc\u00f3 el inicio de su carrera formal y de su reconocimiento internacional. A partir de ah\u00ed comenz\u00f3 un peregrinaje por todo el Ecuador, Colombia, Per\u00fa, Argentina, Uruguay y Chile. Al regresar a su pa\u00eds, fue detenido y llevado a cumplir el servicio militar.<\/div>\n

Vuelto a la vida civil en 1960, sigui\u00f3 con sus presentaciones, alcanzando actuaciones hasta de cuatro meses consecutivos en el cine Guayas de Guayaquil, con lleno completo. Particip\u00f3 en la pel\u00edcula Romance en Ecuador y en otra rodada en Argentina. En 1965 se radic\u00f3 en Venezuela, desde donde realiz\u00f3 giras triunfales por M\u00e9xico, Puerto Rico y toda Am\u00e9rica Central. Grab\u00f3 en d\u00fao con Daniel Santos, Alci Acosta y Olimpo C\u00e1rdenas.<\/div>\n

Su \u00faltima gira internacional tuvo lugar por Estados Unidos y Canad\u00e1. Los esc\u00e1ndalos de su turbulenta vida tambi\u00e9n eran con frecuencia noticia. Varias veces fue apresado y casi siempre por problemas de mujeres o por incumplimiento con el Tribunal de Menores.<\/div>\n

Adem\u00e1s de haberse casado cinco veces, tuvo hijos con otras mujeres, que llegaron a sumar un total de veintiocho. Nunca neg\u00f3 sus or\u00edgenes humildes, se mostraba generoso, despilfarrador del dinero con sus amigos, y prototipo del machismo porte\u00f1o. A su regreso al Ecuador en 1975, cansado, envejecido prematuramente y carcomido por la cirrosis, dio una presentaci\u00f3n en su ciudad natal, durante la cual fue abucheado porque su voz ya no era la de antes.<\/div>\n

En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ten\u00eda un programa en Radio Cristal titulado “La hora de J. J.”, de cuya propaganda a duras penas sacaba para vivir. No obstante, Julio Jaramillo muri\u00f3 cuando la gran masa del pueblo lo consideraba todav\u00eda como el gran cantante, lo cual contribuy\u00f3 a que en torno a \u00e9l se tejiera la leyenda.<\/div>\n

Muerto a la edad de tan s\u00f3lo cuarenta y tres a\u00f1os, sus restos recibieron una despedida como ning\u00fan otro personaje popular ha conocido en Guayaquil, pues se calcula que fueron acompa\u00f1ados por unas 250.000 personas. Despu\u00e9s de su muerte, un empresario argentino lanz\u00f3 al mercado los discos de larga duraci\u00f3n que conten\u00edan las canciones -muchas de ellas in\u00e9ditas- que Julio le grababa cuando ten\u00eda necesidad de dinero, dando as\u00ed base al dicho popular de que “el Ruise\u00f1or cantaba mejor despu\u00e9s de muerto”. Su vida ha sido llevada al cine por producciones Garc\u00eda Dos, en el largometraje Nuestro Juramento, rodado en M\u00e9xico y Guayaquil, con argumento de su hermano Pepe.<\/div>\n

Ecuadorian singer, born in Guayaquil on October 1, 1935 and died there in 1978. Known by the nicknames of El Ruise\u00f1or de Am\u00e9rica and Mister Juramento, he is considered the greatest singer of his country of all time.<\/div>\n

Having lost his father when he was just six years old, his mother worked as a nurse to support him. Julio was very sickly during his childhood: he suffered from bronchopneumonia, diphtheria, dysentery, and even had the beginning of infantile paralysis. Together with Pepe, his older brother, and against the will of his mother, he began to sing at the house of the musician Toapanta. He studied at the Philanthropic and a Fiscal School, under the direction of the teacher Lauro D\u00e1vila, precisely the author of the Guayaquil de mis amores corridor.<\/div>\n

After elementary school, he was employed in a women’s shoe store, and later as a furniture varnish. At seventeen he was already known for his beautiful and warm voice, and he participated in Radio Condor programs.<\/div>\n

In 1950 he joined two friends and they went around the towns of Esmeraldas and Manab\u00ed, singing in trio. At one point he was forced to return to his shoemaker trade to survive.<\/div>\n

Despite the reproaches, punishments, tears and pleas of his mother, he was not able to leave his bohemian and partying life. The leap to fame occurred in 1955 with the waltz Fatalidad de \u00e9l, since the recording of this song marked the beginning of his formal career and of his international recognition. From there he began a pilgrimage throughout Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Upon returning to his country, he was arrested and taken to do military service.<\/div>\n

Returned to civilian life in 1960, he continued with his presentations, reaching performances of up to four consecutive months at the Guayas cinema in Guayaquil, with a full house. He participated in the film Romance in Ecuador and in another one shot in Argentina. In 1965 he settled in Venezuela, from where he made triumphant tours of Mexico, Puerto Rico and all of Central America. He recorded in duet with Daniel Santos, Alci Acosta and Olimpo C\u00e1rdenas.<\/div>\n

His last international tour took place in the United States and Canada. The scandals of his troubled life also frequently made headlines. Several times he was arrested and almost always for women’s problems or for non-compliance with the Juvenile Court.<\/div>\n

In addition to being married five times, he had children with other women, who came to a total of twenty-eight. He never denied his humble origins, he was generous, wasteful of money with his friends, and a prototype of Buenos Aires machismo. Upon his return to Ecuador in 1975, tired, prematurely aged and eaten away by cirrhosis, he gave a presentation in his hometown, during which he was booed because his voice was no longer what it used to be.<\/div>\n

In recent years he had a program on Radio Cristal titled “La hora de J. J.”, from whose propaganda he barely got to live. However, Julio Jaramillo died when the great mass of the people still considered him as the great singer, which contributed to the legend being woven around him.<\/div>\n

After his death, an Argentine business man released the long-playing records containing the songs -many of them unreleased- that Julio recorded for him when he needed money, thus giving rise to the popular saying that “the Nightingale sang better afterwards. Of death”. His life has been taken to the cinema by Garc\u00eda Dos productions, in the feature film Nuestro Juramento, shot in Mexico and Guayaquil, with the argument of his brother Pepe.<\/div>\n
