Terrence Parsons, conocido como Matt Monro, fue un cantante ingl\u00e9s de m\u00fasica popular<\/p>\n

Comenz\u00f3 su carrera cantando en anuncios de televisi\u00f3n y con una cuantas orquestas brit\u00e1nicas (entre ellas, la Orquesta de Cyril Stapleton) a comienzos de los a\u00f1os cincuenta. Tras unas pocas grabaciones para diversas compa\u00f1\u00edas, firm\u00f3 con Decca para un disco de est\u00e1ndares titulado Blue and Sentimental (1957).<\/p>\n

Un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s su carrera vivi\u00f3 un momento crucial cuando el productor George Martin le pidi\u00f3 que prestase su voz para un disco de Peter Sellers, Songs for Swingin’ Sellers, en el que se satirizaban diversos temas de Sinatra. La contribuci\u00f3n de Monro, “You Keep Me Swingin'”, le proporcion\u00f3 un contrato para Parlophone, y alcanz\u00f3 el n\u00famero tres en las listas brit\u00e1nicas con su tema de 1960 “Portrait of My Love”. Su disco de 1980 Heartbreaker lo situ\u00f3 de nuevo en el ambiente musical pero su salud se fue deteriorando y por culpa de un c\u00e1ncer falleci\u00f3 cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Terrence Parsons, known as Matt Monro, was an English singer of popular music<\/p>\n

He began his career singing in television commercials and with a few British orchestras (including the Cyril Stapleton Orchestra) in the early 1950s. After a few recordings for various companies, he signed with Decca for a standards album entitled Blue and Sentimental (1957).<\/p>\n

A year later his career reached a pivotal moment when producer George Martin asked him to lend his voice for a Peter Sellers album, Songs for Swingin ‘Sellers, in which various Sinatra songs were satirized. Monro’s contribution, “You Keep Me Swingin ‘”, landed him a contract for Parlophone, and he reached number three on the UK charts with his 1960 song “Portrait of My Love.” Other successful songs were “My Kind of Girl” (which would be his first hit in the United States) and “Softly, As I Leave You”.<\/p>\n

In 1962 he published an album for Parlophone, Matt Monro Sings Hoagy Carmichael, with great repercussion, although it would be his interpretation of the theme for the James Bond film that would make him known around the world. His next track, “Walk Away,” peaked at number four in Britain and entered the top twenty in America.<\/p>\n

He represented the United Kingdom at the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 2nd place with the song I love the little Things.<\/p>\n

In 1965 he became the first artist to cover the Beatles song “Yesterday.” He moved to the United States and began lavishing himself in nightclubs and recording sporadically during the 1970s. His 1980 album Heartbreaker placed him back in the musical environment but his health deteriorated and he died of cancer five years later.<\/p>\n
