Billy Paul comenz\u00f3 su carrera musical a los doce a\u00f1os apareciendo en emisoras de radio locales de Filadelfia. Escuchando discos que su madre compraba desarroll\u00f3 un estilo vocal con ra\u00edces en el jazz, el R&B y el pop.<\/div>\n

Billy Paul began his musical career at age twelve by appearing on local Philadelphia radio stations. Listening to records his mother bought he developed a vocal style with roots in jazz, R&B and pop.<\/div>\n

Paul attended West Philadelphia Music School to complete his training in vocal technique. Around that time he began to be known on the music circuit of his city, later appearing in clubs and university campuses nationwide. This allowed him to be in concert with figures such as Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, The Impressions, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Roberta Flack.<\/div>\n

Paul formed a trio and recorded his first album, Why Am I, before being called up. Upon his return, he joined the New Dawn label, who put him in Harold Melvin’s group. Later he recorded the albums Feeling Good at the Cadillac Club and Ebony Woman.<\/div>\n

Then came Going East, with the Philadelphia International Records label, which brought him more recognition from the public, but it would not be until 360 Degrees Of Billy Paul that he would achieve commercial and critical success mainly thanks to the song “Me and Mrs. Jones.<\/div>\n

“Me and Mrs. Jones” was number one on the Hot 100 for three weeks in 1972. It sold two million copies and allowed Paul to win a Grammy Award in the category of male R&B performer.<\/div>\n
