Nacido en Memphis, en 1941, Donald debe su apodo a su padre, que llamaba a su hijo \u00abPato\u00bb por su afici\u00f3n al personaje de Disney Donald Duck. Sin precedentes musicales en su familia (su padre era fabricante de caramelos y se opon\u00eda firmemente a que el joven iniciase su carrera como m\u00fasico), Donald comenz\u00f3 a trabajar en la f\u00e1brica de su padre, pero con 16 a\u00f1os comenz\u00f3 a tocar el bajo.2 Dunn ya tocaba el ukelele desde los 10 a\u00f1os, y hab\u00eda probado la guitarra, pero la encontraba muy complicada.<\/div>\n

En 1958 Donald compr\u00f3 su primer Fender, un modelo Precision bass.2 Durante sus a\u00f1os de high school forma, con su amigo Steve Crooper, The Royal Spades, la primera banda de m\u00fasicos blancos de Memphis en la que dejaban sentir claramente las influencias de m\u00fasicos negros BB King, Ray Charles o Chuck Berry. Born in Memphis in 1941, Donald owes his nickname to his father, who called his son “Duck” because of his fondness for the Disney character Donald Duck. With no musical precedents in his family (his father was a candy maker and was strongly opposed to the young man starting his career as a musician), Donald began working in his father’s factory, but at the age of 16 he began to play bass. Dunn had been playing ukulele since he was 10 years old, and had tried the guitar, but found it very complicated.<\/div>\n

In 1958 Donald bought his first Fender, a Precision bass model. During his high school years, with his friend Steve Crooper, The Royal Spades, the first white band of Memphis musicians in which the influences of musicians were clearly felt. black BB King, Ray Charles or Chuck Berry. The band was renamed The Mar-Keys, and when Crooper was hired as a full-time session musician by the Stax label, he immediately called Dunn to join Booker T’s MGs, the band in charge of recording with virtually all artists of the seal.<\/div>\n

During his stay at Booker T & The MGs Dunn not only recorded records accompanying other artists, but also released records on behalf of the band.
