Joseph Ira Dassin, m\u00e1s conocido como Joe Dassin, fue un m\u00fasico estadounidense y franc\u00e9s naci\u00f3 en Nueva York en 1938 y muri\u00f3 en Papeete, en la Polinesia Francesa. Su padre, Jules Dassin, fue un actor y cineasta norteamericano de ascendencia jud\u00eda ruso-polaca y ucraniana, autor de obras del llamado “cine negro”. Su madre, Beatrice Launer, era una virtuosa violinista de origen austro-h\u00fangaro. Dassin pas\u00f3 su infancia en Nueva York y en Los \u00c1ngeles; siendo a\u00fan ni\u00f1o, acompa\u00f1\u00f3 al exilio en Europa a sus padres, v\u00edctimas de la pol\u00edtica anticomunista del senador Joseph McCarthy.<\/div>\n

Despu\u00e9s de estudiar en el Instituto Le Rosey, en Suiza, y de acabar el bachillerato en Grenoble, Dassin regres\u00f3 a los Estados Unidos para estudiar etnolog\u00eda en la Universidad de M\u00edchigan (Ann Arbor, M\u00edchigan). Acabar\u00eda regresando nuevamente a Francia, donde trabajar\u00eda como t\u00e9cnico para su padre, apareciendo incluso en algunas de sus pel\u00edculas. Joseph Ira Dassin, better known as Joe Dassin, was an American and French musician born in New York in 1938 and died in Papeete, French Polynesia. His father, Jules Dassin, was an American actor and filmmaker of Russian-Polish Jewish and Ukrainian descent, the author of so-called “black film” works. His mother, Beatrice Launer, was a virtuoso violinist of Austro-Hungarian origin. Dassin spent his childhood in New York and Los Angeles; As a child, he accompanied his parents into exile in Europe, victims of the anti-communist policy of Senator Joseph McCarthy.<\/div>\n

After studying at Le Rosey Institute in Switzerland and finishing high school in Grenoble, Dassin returned to the United States to study ethnology at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan). He would end up returning to France again, where he would work as a technician for his father, even appearing in some of his films. Through the intercession of Catherine R\u00e9gnier, a friend of his first wife, Maryse Massiera, Dassin gets the American record company CBS to start recording his songs.<\/div>\n

The 60s saw him reach his first successes thanks to songs like “Les Dalton”, “Guantanamera”, “Siffler sur la colline” or “Les Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es”. By the 70s, Dassin’s songs reached the top of the charts in France and brought him definitively to fame. It was the time of “L’Am\u00e9rique”, “Le Moustique”, “Si tu t’appelles m\u00e9lancolie”, “Le caf\u00e9 des trois colombes”, “\u00c0 toi” and especially “L’\u00e9t\u00e9 indien”.<\/div>\n

Probably in recognition of his left-wing ideological parents, Dassin’s recordings were allowed in the Soviet Union. He was also a talented polyglot, recording songs in German, Spanish, Italian, Greek, even Japanese. Besides, of course, French and English.<\/div>\n
