Su m\u00fasica combina elementos africanos e ind\u00edgenas tal como sucedi\u00f3 durante la \u00e9poca de la colonizaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola en Am\u00e9rica. Los ritmos que nacieron de esa fusi\u00f3n fueron m\u00faltiples siendo los m\u00e1s representativos tal como la gaita, la cumbia, el porro, la chalupa, el sexteto y el mapal\u00e9. Pertenece a la cuarta generaci\u00f3n de una familia dedicada a la m\u00fasica, aprendi\u00f3 a bailar y cantar desde ni\u00f1a pues su padre era percusionista y su madre cantante y bailarina.<\/div>\n

En 1964 junto a sus padres y hermanos conforma su primer grupo. Despu\u00e9s de estudiar en el conservatorio de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y de realizar varias giras internacionales, en 1982 acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez a recibir el Premio Nobel de literatura en Estocolmo, Suecia. Grab\u00f3 su primera producci\u00f3n en Francia en el a\u00f1o 1982. Posteriormente se dedic\u00f3 a recorrer Europa y a estudiar en la universidad de La Sorbona de Par\u00eds, as\u00ed como en otras instituciones de Santiago de Cuba y La Habana.<\/div>\n

En 1991 particip\u00f3 en el Festival Cervantino de Guanajuato y en el festival de m\u00fasica del Caribe en Canc\u00fan, ambos en M\u00e9xico. Ese a\u00f1o es invitada por WOMAD (World Music Arts and Dance), la fundaci\u00f3n de Peter Gabriel, para grabar con el sello Real World el \u00e1lbum \u201cLa Candela Viva\u201d que apareci\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 1993. En 1992 representa a Colombia en la Feria Mundial realizada en Sevilla, Espa\u00f1a.<\/div>\n

His music combines African and indigenous elements as happened during the time of Spanish colonization in America. The rhythms that arose from that fusion were multiple, the most representative being such as the bagpipe, the cumbia, the porro, the chalupa, the sextet and the mapal\u00e9. She belongs to the fourth generation of a family dedicated to music, she learned to dance and sing as a child because her father was a percussionist and her mother a singer and dancer.<\/div>\n

In 1964 she, together with her parents and her brothers, made up her first group. After studying at the conservatory of the National University of Colombia and making several international tours, in 1982 she accompanied Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez to receive the Nobel Prize for literature in Stockholm, Sweden. She recorded the first production of her in France in 1982. Later, she dedicated herself to touring Europe and studying at the Sorbonne University in Paris, as well as at other institutions in Santiago de Cuba and Havana.<\/div>\n
