Heinz naci\u00f3 en Detmold en 1942. Heinz was born in Detmold in 1942. His father died in the Second World War (1939-1945), so at the age of seven (in 1949) Heinz moved with his mother to the town of Eastleigh, in the county of Hampshire. , 8 km north of Southampton city center (southern England). Heinz was influenced by the American singer Eddie Cochran. In the late 1950s he started playing in a skiffle band, the Falcons.<\/div>\n

While working in a Southampton grocery store, Heinz caught the attention of producer Joe Meek, becoming his prot\u00e9g\u00e9. Meek created the image of Heinz, which included persuading him to bleach his hair with peroxide, and wear tight-fitting leather clothing.<\/div>\n

Heinz began playing electric bass in the band The Tornados, managed by Meek. He was working hard in the studio with the band to create a new “spatial sound.” The result of these efforts was the short instrumental work “Telstar” (named after the American satellite Telstar, the first communications satellite), which included an electronic keyboard called a clavioline. The single ended up being a multi-million dollar hit – it sold five million copies.<\/div>\n

The following year (1963) Heinz left the Tornados and launched his solo career. Initially his band was called The Saints (Heinz and the Saints). Kramer and the Dakotas, and Bobby Rydell, Heinz was seen as belonging to the rock and roll era, while the more modern merseybeat was more fashionable across the country.<\/div>\n

Heinz covered the song “Don\u2019t think twice, it\u2019s alright” by Bob Dylan, which was another commercial failure. Heinz went from the Decca record label to EMI. He had minor success with Diggin ‘my potatoes.<\/div>\n

Differences with Meek began to appear on a professional and personal level. When Heinz introduced his girlfriend to Meek, their relationship fell apart. Heinz briefly lived in the apartment Meek rented, but when they had disagreements over the copyrights of the songs, Heinz moved out, leaving some possessions behind, including a shotgun.<\/div>\n

In 1967, with that shotgun, Meek killed the owner of his apartment and then committed suicide. Heinz was questioned by the police – since the shotgun was in his name – but it was concluded that he had nothing to do with the deaths.<\/div>\n

Meek’s death ended Heinz’s musical career as a solo singer. Since then he has worked outside of the music industry, including an advertisement for a local newspaper, The Post Dagenham.<\/div>\n

Although he was often dismissed as a mediocre talent who had been propelled by Meek to fame, Heinz was an avid performer and in the 1970s he worked as a stage and pantomime actor.<\/div>\n
