perteneci\u00f3 al grupo de Els Setze Jutges y que puede considerarse como uno de los abanderados de la Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3 catalana. Su canci\u00f3n m\u00e1s popular y m\u00e1s comprometida ha sido L’Estaca compuesta en el a\u00f1o 1968, que Jacek Kaczmarski adapt\u00f3 como himno no oficial del sindicato polaco Solidaridad, y que se convirti\u00f3 en 1997 en el himno oficial del club de rugby Union Sportive Arlequins Perpignan (Uni\u00f3n Deportiva Arlequ\u00edn de Perpi\u00f1\u00e1n) de Perpi\u00f1\u00e1n (Francia). Tambi\u00e9n ha sido la canci\u00f3n de la Revoluci\u00f3n tunecina en 2011. Por las diferentes prohibiciones que le hicieron para poder interpretar sus canciones durante la dictadura franquista tuvo que exiliarse durante un tiempo en Par\u00eds. En septiembre de 1979 es el primer cantante no oper\u00edstico que actu\u00f3 por primera vez en el Gran Teatro del Liceo de Barcelona para presentar Somniem.<\/div>\n

Es hijo de un m\u00e9dico de pueblo, Josep Maria Llach, de una familia de terratenientes, que despu\u00e9s de combatir en el Requet\u00e9 durante la Guerra Civil Espa\u00f1ola consigui\u00f3 plaza en el pueblo ampurdan\u00e9s de Verges (provincia de Gerona), del que lleg\u00f3 a ser alcalde entre 1950 y 1963 y de madre maestra, Mar\u00eda Grande, nacida en Porrera (Tarragona), de familia extreme\u00f1a, que hab\u00eda recibido una educaci\u00f3n burguesa en Barcelona Su familia paterna estaba vinculada al carlismo, habiendo sido su bisabuelo Joaqu\u00edn Llach jefe de la Comuni\u00f3n Tradicionalista en la provincia de Gerona.6 Vivi\u00f3 su infancia en este peque\u00f1o pueblo situado en el Bajo Ampurd\u00e1n, comarca de la que siempre se ha declarado un enamorado. No ha perdido nunca estas ra\u00edces y todav\u00eda hoy participa cada Semana Santa en la famosa procesi\u00f3n de la Danza de la Muerte y tiene una residencia en el pueblo vecino de Parlab\u00e1.<\/div>\n

En 1963, a la edad de 16 a\u00f1os, se traslad\u00f3 a Barcelona para estudiar el preuniversitario y posteriormente hacer estudios de ingenier\u00eda. Dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, se inscribir\u00eda en la Facultad de Econ\u00f3micas, estudios que abandon\u00f3 para cursar lo que, seg\u00fan \u00e9l, ser\u00eda su universidad: se integr\u00f3 en el movimiento de la Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3, incorpor\u00e1ndose al grupo Els Setze Jutges, del cual fue el \u00faltimo componente.<\/div>\n

Llu\u00eds Llach empez\u00f3 a tener un extenso y variado repertorio con canciones como Que feli\u00e7 era, mare!, La meva terra, Res no ha acabat, Jo s\u00e9, Damunt d’una terra, El d\u00eda, Cant miner, Cels trencats, Cal que neixin flors a cada instant, El bandoler, Per un tros del teu cos, Irene, Jo tamb\u00e9 he dormit a l’alba, Tot sovint escolto hist\u00f2ries que em parlen d’esclaus, Cop de destral, Aquell vaixell, Respon-me, Cinquanta estrelles, y con la interpretaci\u00f3n de L’estaca con m\u00fasica sola.<\/div>\n

El debut en Par\u00eds se llev\u00f3 a cabo el 21 de enero de 1973, y los cr\u00edticos dijeron que fue una de sus mejores actuaciones hasta entonces. Si bien el p\u00fablico era predominantemente catal\u00e1n, tambi\u00e9n asistieron muchos franceses, y signific\u00f3 el triunfo definitivo tanto de Llu\u00eds Llach como de la Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3 en Par\u00eds.<\/div>\n

Su nuevo trabajo del a\u00f1o 1975, Viatge a \u00cdtaca, basado en textos de Kavafis, se convierte en su disco m\u00e1s vendido hasta entonces con 150.000 copias. Con este disco inici\u00f3 la colaboraci\u00f3n en los arreglos de Manel Camp y con el bater\u00eda Santi Arisa, ambos manresanos y antiguos componentes de Fusioon. Su presentaci\u00f3n se hizo el 7 de mayo en el Palacio de la M\u00fasica Catalana y a las veinticuatro horas de ponerse las entradas a la venta ya se hab\u00edan agotado.<\/div>\n

El lunes 12 de mayo, el cantante fue conducido por la polic\u00eda desde el hotel donde se alojaba, hasta la \u00abJefatura Superior\u00bb, donde tuvo que declarar y no sali\u00f3 hasta dos horas m\u00e1s tarde. El interrogatorio se centr\u00f3 en el primer recital cuando el cantante, que ten\u00eda prohibido hacer ninguna repetici\u00f3n de sus canciones, despu\u00e9s de que el p\u00fablico aplaudiera durante m\u00e1s de veinte minutos, volvi\u00f3 a salir para decir que no pod\u00eda cantar otra.<\/div>\n

He belonged to the group of Els Setze Jutges and can be considered as one of the standard bearers of the Catalan Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3. His most popular and most committed song has been L’Estaca composed in 1968, which Jacek Kaczmarski adapted as the unofficial anthem of the Polish union Solidarity, and which in 1997 became the official anthem of the rugby club Union Sportive Arlequins Perpignan ( Harlequin Sports Union of Perpignan) of Perpignan (France). It has also been the song of the Tunisian Revolution in 2011. Due to the different prohibitions that were made to interpret their songs during the Franco dictatorship, he had to go into exile for a time in Paris. In September 1979 he was the first non-operatic singer to perform for the first time at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona to present Somniem.<\/div>\n

He is the son of a village doctor, Josep Maria Llach, from a family of landowners, who after fighting in Requet\u00e9 during the Spanish Civil War got a place in the Empord\u00e0 town of Verges (province of Gerona), of which he became mayor between 1950 and 1963 and from a teacher mother, Mar\u00eda Grande, born in Porrera (Tarragona), from an Extremaduran family, who had received a bourgeois education in Barcelona His paternal family was linked to Carlism, his great-grandfather Joaqu\u00edn Llach having been head of the Traditionalist Communion in the province of Gerona.6 He lived his childhood in this small town located in Bajo Ampurd\u00e1n, a region with which he has always declared himself to be in love. He has never lost these roots and still today participates every Easter in the famous procession of the Dance of Death and has a residence in the neighboring town of Parlab\u00e1.<\/div>\n

In 1963, at the age of 16, he moved to Barcelona to study high school and later do engineering studies. Two years later, he enrolled in the Faculty of Economics, studies that he abandoned to study what, according to him, would be his university: he joined the Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3 movement, joining the Els Setze Jutges group, of which he was the last component.<\/div>\n

The Paris debut took place on January 21, 1973, and critics said it was one of his best performances to date. Although the audience was predominantly Catalan, many French also attended, and it marked the definitive triumph of both Llu\u00eds Llach and Nova Can\u00e7\u00f3 in Paris.<\/div>\n

His new work from 1975, Viatge a \u00cdtaca, based on texts by Kavafis, became his best-selling album so far with 150,000 copies. The questioning focused on the first recital when the singer, who was prohibited from doing any repetition of his songs, after the audience applauded for more than twenty minutes, came out again to say that he could not sing another.<\/div>\n
