Jos\u00e9 del Refugio S\u00e1nchez Salda\u00f1a, fue un compositor y cantante mexicano naci\u00f3 el s\u00e1bado 3 de mayo de 1921. Su padre, don Jos\u00e9 del Refugio S\u00e1nchez Herros, Capit\u00e1n Primero Pagador del Ej\u00e9rcito Mexicano, se trasladaba con su regimiento a la Ciudad de Altamira, Tamaulipas; con \u00e9l viajaba su esposa, Felipa Salda\u00f1a Cabello de S\u00e1nchez, a quien poco despu\u00e9s de la medianoche le comenzaron los trabajos del parto fue unos del los m\u00e1s reconocido en Altamira. Su esposa dio a luz un varoncito, a quien le pusieron el nombre de Jos\u00e9 del Refugio, y que, con el correr de los a\u00f1os, se le conocer\u00eda como Cuco S\u00e1nchez. Poco tiempo despu\u00e9s naci\u00f3 Enrique, su \u00fanico hermano.<\/div>\n

La familia tuvo que viajar mucho durante los primeros cinco a\u00f1os de vida del peque\u00f1o Cuco, hasta que, un d\u00eda, su padre decidi\u00f3 ir al norte a enlistarse con el General \u00c1lvaro Obreg\u00f3n. La familia no lo volvi\u00f3 a ver hasta despu\u00e9s de muchos a\u00f1os.<\/div>\n

Su madre los llev\u00f3 a vivir a la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico, en Tulyehualco, en donde consiguieron comprar algunas chivas y vacas para vivir. As\u00ed fue que Refugio se convirti\u00f3 en pastor y vivi\u00f3 una infancia dif\u00edcil, ya que tuvo que trabajar muy duro para procurar algunas comodidades a su madre y hermano. Desde su infancia se distingui\u00f3 por decir frases bonitas, las cuales le gustaban mucho a su madre, quien por ello las anotaba. Cuando Cuco aprendi\u00f3 a escribir, redactaba ideas muy completas y po\u00e9ticas, y al poco tiempo descubri\u00f3 su capacidad y facilidad para desarrollar melod\u00edas para acompa\u00f1ar esas frases y pensamientos.<\/div>\n

As\u00ed que decidi\u00f3 acudir a la XEW-AM con su trabajo, pero sus primeros intentos fueron vanos, ya que ni siquiera consigui\u00f3 que le permitieran entrar al edificio. Un d\u00eda tuvo un golpe de suerte, ya que Alonso Sordo Noriega, fundador de la emisora, le consigui\u00f3 la oportunidad de que entrara a conversar con algunos int\u00e9rpretes. Fue as\u00ed como consigui\u00f3 que le grabaran algunas canciones.<\/div>\n

M\u00e1s adelante sucedi\u00f3 que, en un programa de Radio Mil, no se present\u00f3 un cantante, por lo que Paco Malgesto le sugiri\u00f3 que cantara. Desde esta primera presentaci\u00f3n logr\u00f3 una gran aceptaci\u00f3n del p\u00fablico; a partir de ese momento comenz\u00f3 su desarrollo y, poco a poco, fue tomando el estilo que lo caracteriz\u00f3 y lo llev\u00f3 al \u00e9xito. Cuco S\u00e1nchez comenz\u00f3 su carrera art\u00edstica en 1937, pero fue en 1939 cuando su canci\u00f3n Mi chata lo lanz\u00f3 a la fama. Compuso m\u00e1s de 200 canciones, varias de ellas para el cine. Su estilo retoma la tradici\u00f3n de la canci\u00f3n revolucionaria.<\/div>\n

Algunas frases de sus canciones se han convertido en expresiones del habla popular, por ejemplo: “la chancla que yo tiro no la vuelvo a levantar” para decir que un amor una vez abandonado, lo es para siempre.3 Pusieron voz a sus composiciones artistas como Miguel Aceves Mej\u00eda, Amalia Mendoza, Lola Beltr\u00e1n, Lucha Villa, Pedro Infante, Matilde S\u00e1nchez “La Torcacita”, Chavela Vargas, Mar\u00eda Dolores Pradera, Pedro Guerra, Joaqu\u00edn Sabina, \u00c1ngel Parra,4 entre otros. Cuco S\u00e1nchez falleci\u00f3 a la edad de 79 a\u00f1os.<\/div>\n

Jos\u00e9 del Refugio S\u00e1nchez Salda\u00f1a, was a Mexican composer and singer born on Saturday, May 3, 1921. His father, Don Jos\u00e9 del Refugio S\u00e1nchez Herros, First Payer Captain of the Mexican Army, moved with his regiment to the City of Altamira, Tamaulipas ; With him was his wife, Felipa Salda\u00f1a Cabello de S\u00e1nchez, whose labor began shortly after midnight was one of the most recognized in Altamira. His wife gave birth to a boy, who was named Jos\u00e9 del Refugio, and who, over the years, would be known as Cuco S\u00e1nchez. Shortly after, Enrique, his only brother, was born.<\/div>\n

Their mother took them to live in Mexico City, in Tulyehualco, where they managed to buy some goats and cows to live on. So it was that Refugio became a pastor and lived a difficult childhood, as he had to work very hard to provide some comforts for his mother and brother. So he decided to go to XEW-AM with his work, but his first attempts were in vain, as he did not even get allowed into the building. One day he had a stroke of luck, since Alonso Sordo Noriega, founder of the station, got him the opportunity to enter to talk with some interpreters.
