Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 classic novel Dracula, premiered in 1922. Starring Max Schreck as the legendary vampire Count Orlok, the silent film was directed by F. W. Murnau and had a script by Henrik Galeen. Nosferatu is returning to the big screen more than a century later.
The Nosferatu remake has an impressive cast and crew, making this one of the year’s most anticipated releases. Here’s everything to know about the upcoming gothic vampire thriller.
The Plot
Following the same premise as the 1922 film, Nosferatu is set in Germany in 1838. A vampire becomes obsessed with a young woman, consuming her dreams and waking moments while also making himself known to those around her. Can anyone break his grasp before he consumes her, body and soul?
The Cast & Crew
Robert Eggers wrote and directed the film. This is not the acclaimed filmmaker’s first time making a fantastical period piece. He previously directed The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019), and The Northman (2022), all of which received positive reviews. Eggers seems the ideal choice to remake such a classic movie.
Bill Skarsgård (IT, Barbarian) portrays the menacing Count Orlok, with Lily-Rose Depp (Silent Night, The Idol) playing his obsession, Ellen Hutter. Nicholas Hoult (The Menu, Renfield) stars as her husband, Thomas Hutter.
