Windom nació el 28 de septiembre de 1923 en Nueva York, hijo de Isabel Wells (née Peckham) y Paul Windom, un arquitecto. Era el bisnieto del Secretario del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos del mismo nombre. WILLIAM WINDOM (September 28, 1923 – August 16, 2012) was an American actor.
Biography and career
Windom was born on September 28, 1923 in New York, the son of Isabel Wells (née Peckham) and Paul Windom, an architect. He was the great-grandson of the United States Secretary of the Treasury of the same name. He served in the United States Army in the European theater of operations during World War II, as a paratrooper with Company B, 1st Battalion 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.
He was perhaps best known for his television work, including several episodes of The Twilight Zone, playing Glen Morley, a fictional Minnesota congressman, based on Windom’s own great-grandfather and namesake in The Farmer’s Daughter; as John Monroe on the sitcom My World and Welcome to It, for which he won an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series; He was also on Commodore Matt Decker, as commander of the doomed U.S.S.
Constellation in the Star Trek episode, The Doomsday Machine; the character of Randy Lane in the Night Gallery’s Emmy-nominated episode They’re Tearing Down Tim Riley’s Bar; the most common recurring character on the Emmy-winning series, A Murder Has Been Wrote, Dr. Seth Hazlitt, and for playing Puppetino in Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night.
He died on August 16, 2012, at the age of 88, at his home in Woodacre, California, of congestive heart failure.
