STEPHEN ROBERT FRANKEN, conocido como STEVE FRANKEN (27 de mayo de 1932 – 24 de agosto de 2012), fue un actor estadounidense que apareció en el cine y la televisión durante medio siglo.
Biografía y carrera
Steve Franken era hijo de un agente de prensa de Hollywood y nació en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Su primer papel en cine fue en 1958 como «Willie» en la serie dramática de CBS, Playhouse 90. El productor Rod Amateau lo vio en Los Ángeles en una producción teatral de Say, Darling y le dieron el papel del millonario diletante de playboy Chatsworth Osborne, Jr. en la serie de CBS, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.1 Franken apareció como invitado recurrente en numerosos episodios a partir de la mitad de la primera temporada y hasta la cuarta, desde 1960 a 1963. Franken atribuyó la mirada del personaje a la condescendencia de dolor de una úlcera que había sufrido desde los 14 años, cuando su madre murió.
Al sentirse encasillado, buscó papeles de villano, pero también tuvo otro papel de rico derrochador en la comedia en vivo Tom, Dick and Mary, y llegó a una larga carrera como actor de televisión y cine. Quizá su actuación más conocida a nivel mundial, es su memorable participación como el camarero borracho en La fiesta inolvidable / El guateque de 1968, junto a Peter Sellers.

Biography and career
Steve Franken was the son of a Hollywood press agent and was born in Brooklyn, New York. His first film role was in 1958 as «Willie» on the CBS drama series Playhouse 90. Producer Rod Amateau saw him in Los Angeles in a stage production of Say, Darling and was cast as the millionaire playboy dilettante Chatsworth. Osborne, Jr. on the CBS series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.1 Franken appeared as a recurring guest on numerous episodes from the middle of the first season to the fourth, from 1960 to 1963. Franken attributed the look of the character to the condescension of pain from an ulcer that he had suffered since he was 14 years old, when his mother died.
Feeling pigeonholed, he sought out villain roles, but also had another role as a wealthy spendthrift on the live comedy Tom, Dick and Mary, and built a long career as a television and film actor. Perhaps his best-known performance worldwide is his memorable participation as the drunken waiter in La fiesta unforgettable / El guateque in 1968, alongside Peter Sellers.
Death
Franken passed away on August 24, 2012 at age 80, at his home in Los Angeles, California of complications from cancer.
