FRANCIS MICHAEL GOUGH, más conocido como MICHAEL GOUGH  (Kuala Lumpur, Malasia, 23 de noviembre de 1916 – Londres, 17 de marzo de 2011) fue un actor británico que intervino en más de 100 películas con roles secundarios.

Biografía y carrera

Nacido en Malasia e hijo de padres británicos (Frances Atkins y su esposo el plantador de caucho Francis Berkeley Gough), Michael Gough hizo su debut como actor en el año 1947 en Blanche Fury y desde ese momento apareció repetidas veces en la televisión británica y participó en la serie de ciencia ficción de mayor duración de la televisión británica: Doctor Who, como también fue el villano de la serie The Celestial Toymaker. Su tercera esposa fue Anneke Wills, que interpretaba a Polly (la acompañante del Doctor) en Doctor Who.

Fue famoso entre los fanáticos del terror debido a sus reiteradas apariciones en películas británicas de ese género en la década de 1960 como Drácula y El fantasma de la ópera (1962).

También apareció en el segundo capítulo de la serie británica Inspector Morse interpretando a Philip Ogleby.

Sus últimas películas fueron Sleepy Hollow (1999) y Corpse Bride (2005), ambas de Tim Burton.

Gough ganó el Premio Tony de Broadway en el año 1979 como mejor actor destacado en una obra de teatro por Bedroom Farce. Fue nominado en la misma categoría en 1988 por Breaking the Code.

Biography and career

Born in Malaysia to British parents (Frances Atkins and her husband the rubber planter Francis Berkeley Gough), Michael Gough made his acting debut in 1947 in Blanche Fury and from then on he appeared repeatedly on British television and participated in the longest running sci-fi series on British television – Doctor Who, as he was also the villain of the series The Celestial Toymaker. His third wife was Anneke Wills, who played Polly (the Doctor’s companion) on Doctor Who.

He was famous among horror fans due to his repeated appearances in British films of that genre in the 1960s such as Dracula and The Phantom of the Opera (1962).

He also appeared in the second episode of the British series Inspector Morse playing Philip Ogleby.

His last films were Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Corpse Bride (2005), both by Tim Burton.

Gough won the 1979 Broadway Tony Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bedroom Farce. He was nominated in the same category in 1988 for Breaking the Code.
