LIONEL JAY STANDER (Nueva York; 11 de enero de 1908 – Los Ángeles, California; fue un actor radiofónico, teatral, cinematográfico y televisivo de nacionalidad estadounidense.

Nacido en la ciudad de Nueva York, en el barrio del Bronx, era el primero de los tres hijos de una familia de inmigrantes rusos de origen judío. La carrera profesional de Stander se inició en 1928, en la pieza Him, de E. e. cummings, representada en el Provincetown Playhouse de Nueva York. Además intervino en una serie de obras de corta trayectoria en los inicios de la década de 1930, entre ellas The House Beautiful, la cual Dorothy Parker retituló con mofa «the play lousy (la función pésima).»
En 1932 Stander hizo su primer papel cinematográfico con créditos en el corto de Warner-Vitaphone In the Dough, con Fatty Arbuckle y Shemp Howard. La personal voz de Stander, y su talento para utilizar diferentes acentos le hizo un popular actor radiofónico. En las décadas de 1930 y 1940 trabajó en el Eddie Cantor Show, el show de Bing Crosby, la adaptación radiofónica realizada para Lux Radio Theater de A Star Is Born, The Fred Allen Show, la serie Mayor of the Town (con Lionel Barrymore y Agnes Moorehead), Kraft Music Hall (en la NBC), Stage Door Canteen (CBS), Lincoln Highway Radio Show (NBC), y The Jack Paar Show, entre otras producciones.
En 1986 dio voz a Kup en Transformers: la película. También actuó junto a Bette Davis en La bruja de mi madre (1989) y su última actuación cinematográfica fue como un paciente moribundo en The Last Good Time (1994), película interpretada por Armin Mueller-Stahl y Olivia d’Abo, con dirección de Bob Balaban.
Lionel Stander falleció a causa de un cáncer de pulmón en Los Ángeles, California, en 1994. Tenía 86 años de edad. Fue enterrado en el Cementerio Forest Lawn Memorial Park de Glendale (California).

Born in New York City, in the borough of the Bronx, he was the first of three children in a family of Russian immigrants of Jewish origin. Stander’s professional career began in 1928, in the piece Him, by E. e. cummings, performed at the Provincetown Playhouse in New York. He was also involved in a number of short-lived plays in the early 1930s, including The House Beautiful, which Dorothy Parker mockingly renamed «the play lousy.»
In 1932 Stander made his first credited film role in the Warner-Vitaphone short In the Dough, starring Fatty Arbuckle and Shemp Howard. Stander’s personal voice, and his talent for using different accents, made him a popular radio actor. In the 1930s and 1940s he worked on the Eddie Cantor Show, the Bing Crosby Show, the Lux Radio Theater adaptation of A Star Is Born, The Fred Allen Show, the Mayor of the Town series (with Lionel Barrymore and Agnes Moorehead), Kraft Music Hall (on NBC), Stage Door Canteen (CBS), Lincoln Highway Radio Show (NBC), and The Jack Paar Show, among other productions.
In 1986 he voiced Kup in Transformers: The Movie. She also acted alongside Bette Davis in My Mother’s Witch (1989) and her last film performance was as a dying patient in The Last Good Time (1994), a film starring Armin Mueller-Stahl and Olivia d’Abo, directed by Bob Balaban.
Lionel Stander passed away from lung cancer in Los Angeles, California, in 1994. He was 86 years old. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale (California).
