KARLHEINZ BÖHM (16 de marzo de 1928 – 29 de mayo de 2014) fue un actor y filántropo austriaco-alemán. Participó en 45 películas y se hizo conocido en Austria y Alemania por su papel del emperador Francisco José I de Austria en la trilogía cinematográfica de Sissi e internacionalmente por su papel de Mark, el protagonista psicópata de Peeping Tom, dirigida por Michael Powell.

Biografía y carrera
De 1948 a 1976 Böhm actuó en unas 45 películas y también en teatro. Con Romy Schneider, protagonizó Sissi (1955), la primera de una trilogía cinematográfica, como el emperador Franz Joseph, con Schneider como su esposa, la emperatriz Isabel de Austria. El papel por un tiempo lo limitó a un género específico como actor, pero la película en inglés más conocida de Böhm fue un cambio dramático de imagen. En Peeping Tom (1960) interpretó al psicópata Mark Lewis.

Brevemente, a principios de la década de 1960, Böhm trabajó en la industria del cine y la televisión estadounidense. He appeared in 45 films and became known in Austria and Germany for his role as Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria in the Sissi film trilogy and internationally for his role as Mark, the psychopathic protagonist of Peeping Tom, directed by Michael Powell. He was the founder of the Menschen für Menschen («Humans for Humans») trust, which helps people in need in Ethiopia.

Biography and career
From 1948 to 1976 Böhm acted in about 45 films and also in theater. With Romy Schneider, he starred in Sissi (1955), the first in a film trilogy, as Emperor Franz Joseph, with Schneider as his wife, Empress Elizabeth of Austria. The role for a time limited him to a specific genre as an actor, but Böhm’s best-known English film was a dramatic makeover. In Peeping Tom (1960) he played the psychopath Mark Lewis.

Briefly, in the early 1960s, Böhm worked in the American film and television industry. He played Jacob Grimm in the MGM – Cinerama Spectacular The Wonderful World of Brothers Grimm and Ludwig van Beethoven in the Walt Disney movie The Magnificent Rebel. The latter film was made especially for Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color television anthology series, but it was released in theaters in Europe.

Böhm’s voice acting work included narration for his father’s Sergei Prokofiev’s 1975 recording of Peter and the Wolf and in 2009 he provided the German voice for Charles Muntz, villain in Pixar’s 10th animated film Up.

Böhm received honorary Ethiopian citizenship in 2003. In 2007 he received the Balzan Prize for Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood among Peoples. In 2011 Karlheinz Böhm and his wife Almaz received the Essl Social Prize for the Menschen für Menschen project.

Death
He died on May 29, 2014, he was 86 years old.
