GRANVILLE GUSTAVUS WITHERS (17 de enero de 1905 – 27 de marzo de 1959) fue un actor de cine estadounidense que actuó bajo el seudónimo de GRANT WITHERS.

Biografía y carrera
«Nacido en Pueblo, Colorado, Withers trabajó como vendedor de una compañía petrolera y reportero de un periódico antes de incursionar en películas cerca del final de la era del cine mudo». Su carrera actoral de más de 30 años despegó a fines de la década de 1920. Cuando tenía veinte años, fue el protagonista del talento en ascenso James Cagney en Other Men’s Women (1931).

Los primeros trabajos de Withers lo tuvieron frente a actores como WC Fields , Buster Keaton , Boris Karloff , Mae West y Shirley Temple. GRANVILLE GUSTAVUS WITHERS (January 17, 1905 – March 27, 1959) was an American film actor who acted under the pseudonym GRANT WITHERS.

Biography and career
«Born in Pueblo, Colorado, Withers worked as a salesman for an oil company and a newspaper reporter before dabbling in movies near the end of the silent film era.» His acting career of more than 30 years took off in the late 1920s. In his early twenties, he starred in rising talent James Cagney in Other Men’s Women (1931).

Withers’s early work had him in front of actors like WC Fields, Buster Keaton, Boris Karloff, Mae West, and Shirley Temple. Appearing in The Red-Haired Alibi (1932) with Temple, he played the role of his first on-screen father. Leading roles in major films were later reduced to supporting roles, primarily as villains in B-movies and series.

After 1940, he was a character actor and a tough guy in westerns. He took on numerous supporting roles on television as his popularity in movies waned. He guest-starred as baseball coach Whitey Martin on the 1956 episode «The Comeback» on Crossroads. In 1959, shortly before his death, Withers participated in the episode «Feeling His Oats» of the western children’s series Fury, starring Peter Graves and Bobby Diamond.

Withers died in his apartment at the age of 54. With health problems, he committed suicide with an overdose of barbiturates on March 27, 1959.
