FRANCIS MATTHEWS, fue un actor británico de cine y televisión, conocido por haber dado voz al personaje principal en la serie de supermarionetas de Gerry Anderson, El Capitán Escarlata y por personificar al refinado detective Paul Temple de la serie de TV producida por la BBC en 1969.
Francis Matthews nació en 1927 en el condado de York, asistió al colegio de enseñanza básica de St. George y luego terminó de graduarse en el colegio jesuita St. Michael en Leeds.
En esa misma ciudad se interesó por la actuación e ingresó al Teatro de Repertorio para formarse como actor; pero interrumpió su carrera para ingresar en 1945 a prestar servicio a la Real Marina Británica durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Terminado su servicio en la marina, retomó su carrera actoral e ingresó al Hammer Studios. Matthews se distinguió de entre sus pares por su voz y perfecta dicción del idioma inglés, con perfecto acento americano que lo llevarían a ser narrador en la serie educativa Follow Me! cuya misión era brindar un curso acelerado de inglés para teleaudiencia extranjera. FRANCIS MATTHEWS, was a British film and television actor, best known for voicing the title character in Gerry Anderson’s super puppet series Captain Scarlet and for portraying the refined detective Paul Temple from the 1969 BBC-produced TV series.
Francis Matthews was born in 1927 in York County, attended St. George Elementary School and then graduated from St. Michael Jesuit College in Leeds.
In that same city he became interested in acting and entered the Repertory Theater to train as an actor; but he interrupted his career to enter in 1945 to serve in the Royal British Navy during World War II.
After finishing his service in the navy, he resumed his acting career and entered Hammer Studios. Matthews distinguished himself from his peers by his voice and perfect diction of the English language, with a perfect American accent that would lead him to be a narrator in the educational series Follow Me! whose mission was to provide an accelerated English course for foreign audiences. The 1960s were the golden age for Matthews providing his voice to the main character, the super puppet «Captain Scarlet» from the series of the same name produced by Gerry Anderson between 1967 and 1968.
Matthews portrayed detective Paul Temple in the TV series broadcast between 1969 and 1971, a role for which he became known worldwide, pigeonholed in this character.
