FARLEY GRANGER, fue un actor estadounidense. En una carrera que abarca varias décadas, él es quizás más conocido por sus dos colaboraciones con Alfred Hitchcock, Rope en 1948 y Strangers on a Train en 1951.
El departamento de publicidad del estudio estaba preocupado porque la audiencia podía confundir a Farley con el actor británico Stewart Granger, por lo que le sugirieron cambiar su nombre y le ofrecieron una lista de donde elegir. Más tarde Granger recordaba que «los nombres eran todos intercambiables, como Gordon Gregory y Gregory Gordon. Yo no quería cambiarme el nombre.

The studio’s publicity department was concerned that the audience might mistake Farley for British actor Stewart Granger, so they suggested changing his name and offering him a list to choose from. Granger later recalled that ‘the names were all interchangeable, like Gordon Gregory and Gregory Gordon. I didn’t want to change my name.
I liked Farley Granger. It was my father’s name, and his grandfather’s. They kept bringing me new combinations, and I finally offered to change it for Kent Clark. I was the only one who thought it was funny. The studio eventually issued a press release announcing that Farley Granger, a North Hollywood High School senior, had been chosen for The North Star after responding to an ad in a local newspaper. «I thought that was really a silly story» [said Granger], the truth was much more interesting. »
Making the movie turned out to be a lucky start to Granger’s career. He enjoyed working with director Milestone and his co-stars Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Walter Brennan and Jane Withers, and during filming he met composer Aaron Copland with whom he would remain friends for many years.
At its release, the film was rampaged by critics working for newspapers owned by William Randolph Hearst, a staunch anti-communist who felt the film was Soviet and Nazi propaganda.
For the next film, Granger was loaned to 20th Century Fox where Darryl F. Zanuck cast him in The Purple Heart, in which he was directed by Milestone and returned to co-star with Dana Andrews.
