BURL IVES (Hunt City, Illinois, 14 de junio de 1909 – Anacortes, Washington, 14 de abril de 1995) fue un actor, compositor y cantante estadounidense, ganador del premio Oscar.

Su nombre completo era Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives, y nació cerca de Hunt City, Illinois. Sus padres eran Levi «Frank» Ives (1880–1947) y Cordelia «Dellie» White (1882–1954).

Ives traveled the United States as a traveling singer in the early 1930s, earning a living from various jobs and playing the banjo.
In 1940 Ives started his own radio show, entitled The Wayfaring Stranger on the occasion of one of his ballads. Over the next decade he popularized several popular songs, such as «Foggy, Foggy Dew» (a song with English and Irish roots), «Blue Tail Fly» (an old tune from the time of the United States Civil War. ), and «Big Rock Candy Mountain» (an old vagrant ditty).
His first big hit was his version of the 17th century English song «Lavender Blue,» which was nominated for an Oscar for best original song for its use in the 1949 film Inside My Heart.
