BRIAN KEITH (Robert Alba Keith: Bayonne, Nueva Jersey, 14 de noviembre de 1921 – Malibú, California, 24 de junio de 1997) fue un actor teatral, cinematográfico y televisivo estadounidense.
Biografía y carrera
Sus padres eran los actores Robert Keith y Helena Shipman, esta última actriz teatral, nativa de Aberdeen (Washington).2 Debutó como actor en la película mudo Pied Piper Malone (1924), con tres años de edad. Entre 1927 y 1929, la madrastra de Keith fue Peg Entwistle, actriz que se hizo famosa por suicidarse saltando desde la «H» del Hollywood Sign (las famosas letras gigantes con el nombre de Hollywood). Tras estudiar en la high school en East Rockaway, Nueva York, se unió al Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos (1942-1945), y sirvió durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial como artillero aéreo, recibiendo una Medalla del Aire.
Tras la guerra, Keith se hizo actor teatral, dedicándose más adelante al cine y, después, a la televisión. Actor fuerte y capaz, Keith pasó muchos años interpretando segundos papeles y a tipos ariscos, como en Yuma junto a Rod Steiger y Sara Montiel.
Ganó fama por su papel protagonista en la serie de Sam Peckinpah The Westerner (1960). Biography and career
His parents were actors Robert Keith and Helena Shipman, the latter theatrical actress, a native of Aberdeen (Washington) .2 He made his acting debut in the silent film Pied Piper Malone (1924), when he was three years old. Between 1927 and 1929, Keith’s stepmother was Peg Entwistle, an actress who became famous for committing suicide by jumping from the «H» in the Hollywood Sign (the famous giant letters with the name of Hollywood). After studying in high school in East Rockaway, New York, he joined the United States Marine Corps (1942-1945), and served during World War II as an aerial gunner, receiving an Air Medal.
After the war, Keith became a stage actor, later turning to film and later to television. A strong and capable actor, Keith spent many years playing second roles and surly types, as in Yuma alongside Rod Steiger and Sara Montiel.
He gained fame for his starring role in the Sam Peckinpah series The Westerner (1960). His big break and rise to fame came, however, in 1966 when he played «Uncle Bill» Davis on the popular television series My Adorable Nephews, a role for which he won three Emmy nominations for best actor.
In his last film, Rough Riders (1997), Keith played President William McKinley. Its director, John Milius, dedicated the film to «Brian Keith, Actor, Marine, Storyteller.»
In his later years, Keith suffered from emphysema and lung cancer.
The suicide death of his daughter Daisy plunged Keith into a deep depression, and just two months later, on June 24, 1997, Keith ended his own life in his Malibu home. He was 75 years old.
