Nacida en Brooklyn, Nueva York, como Adele Louisa Jurgens (algunas fuentes dicen Jurgenson), saltó a la fama a fines de la década de 1930 cuando fue nombrada «Miss Mundo Más Bella» en la Feria Mundial de Nueva York de 1939. A principios de la década de 1940, trabajó brevemente como Rockette y fue nombrada la corista número uno en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Biography and career

Born in Brooklyn, New York, like Adele Louisa Jurgens (some sources say Jurgenson), she rose to prominence in the late 1930s when she was named «Miss World’s Most Beautiful» at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. From the 1940s, she briefly worked as Rockette and was named the number one showgirl in New York City.

 

After a few years of working as a model and showgirl, including understudy for Gypsy Rose Lee on the Broadway show Star and Garter in 1942, Jergens landed a film deal with Columbia Pictures in 1944, and the brunette Jergens turned blonde.

 

Early in her career, she had film roles where she was often cast as a blonde slut or burlesque dancer, such as Down to Earth starring Rita Hayworth (1947) and The Dark Past starring William Holden (1948).

 

He participated in The Cobweb (1955), directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Richard Widmark and Lauren Bacall. She worked on the 1950s radio show Stand By for Crime as Glamorpuss Carol Curtis with her real-life husband Glenn Langan as Chuck Morgan.

 

Adele Jergens-Langan, who retired from the screen in 1956, died on November 22, 2002 of pneumonia at her home in Camarillo, California. His death occurred just four days before his 85th birthday.
