Mar\u00eda Isabel Anita Carmen de Jes\u00fas Vargas Lizano, conocida como Chavela Vargas (San Joaqu\u00edn, Heredia, Costa Rica, 17 de abril de 1919 – Cuernavaca, M\u00e9xico, 5 de agosto de 2012),1 fue una cantante mexicana de origen costarricense. Se la considera una figura principal y peculiar de la m\u00fasica ranchera. Fue distinguida con el Premio Grammy a la Excelencia Musical de la Academia de las Ciencias y Artes de la Grabaci\u00f3n en el 2007.<\/div>\n

Chavela Vargas naci\u00f3 en Costa Rica, en San Joaqu\u00edn (provincia de Heredia) hija de Francisco Vargas y Herminia Lizano. Fue bautizada en la Bas\u00edlica de La Virgen de los \u00c1ngeles tres meses despu\u00e9s, el 15 de julio de 1919, con el nombre Mar\u00eda Isabel Anita Carmen de Jes\u00fas. Tuvo una infancia dif\u00edcil: sus padres se divorciaron y se desentendieron de ella, dej\u00e1ndola al cuidado de unos t\u00edos, y sufri\u00f3 poliomielitis [cita requerida]. En M\u00e9xico, pa\u00eds del que obtuvo la nacionalidad, residi\u00f3 por casi ocho d\u00e9cadas y fue all\u00ed en donde falleci\u00f3.<\/div>\n

Mar\u00eda Isabel Anita Carmen de Jes\u00fas Vargas Lizano, known as Chavela Vargas (San Joaqu\u00edn, Heredia, Costa Rica, April 17, 1919 – Cuernavaca, Mexico, August 5, 2012), 1 was a Mexican singer of Costa Rican origin. She is considered a main and peculiar figure of ranchera music. She was honored with the Grammy Award for Musical Excellence from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 2007.<\/div>\n

Chavela Vargas was born in Costa Rica, in San Joaqu\u00edn (province of Heredia) daughter of Francisco Vargas and Herminia Lizano. She was baptized in the Basilica of the Virgin of the Angels three months later, on July 15, 1919, with the name Mar\u00eda Isabel Anita Carmen de Jes\u00fas. She had a difficult childhood: her parents divorced and abandoned her, leaving her in the care of some uncles, and she suffered from polio [citation needed].
