Funda su primera banda en su ciudad natal, en 1910, y despu\u00e9s toca con el jovenc\u00edsimo trombonista George Brunis y con la banda de Papa Jack Laine. En 1915, a instancias del propietario de un club, se traslada a Chicago, donde funda la Original Dixieland Jazz Band. Trasladados a Nueva York, en 1917 realiza sus primeras grabaciones para el sello Victor, a las que seguir\u00e1n otras para el sello Columbia Records. Realiza una gira por el Reino Unido en 1919, y varias por Norteam\u00e9rica, entre 1920 y 1925. Este a\u00f1o, deshace la banda y abandona temporalmente la m\u00fasica.<\/div>\n

En 1936 vuelve a escena con la ODJB, realizando algunas grabaciones y actuaciones, pero en 1938 regresa a Nueva Orleans y deja definitivamente la m\u00fasica activa.<\/div>\n

He was an American traditional jazz composer, cornetist, and trumpeter.<\/div>\n

He founded his first band in his hometown, in 1910, and later played with the very young trombonist George Brunis and with Papa Jack Laine’s band. In 1915, at the behest of a club owner, he moved to Chicago, where he founded the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. Moved to New York, in 1917 he made his first recordings for the Victor label, to be followed by others for the Columbia Records label. He made a tour of the United Kingdom in 1919, and several in North America, between 1920 and 1925. This year, he disbanded the band and temporarily abandoned music.<\/div>\n
