Harry Belafonte nace en Manhattan, Nueva York, mientras su padre de origen jamaicano trabajaba como chef para la Marina Brit\u00e1nica. Su canci\u00f3n m\u00e1s conocida (que le llev\u00f3 al primer puesto en las listas de \u00e9xitos en 1957) tal vez sea Day-O (Banana Boat Song). Ha hecho apariciones en el Show de los Muppets y su m\u00fasica fue utilizada para la pel\u00edcula Beetlejuice.<\/div>\n

Harry Belafonte was born in Manhattan, New York, while his Jamaican father worked as a chef for the British Navy. When Belafonte was eight years old, his family moved to Jamaica and returned to New York at thirteen, but that stay marked his life, invaded by Caribbean rhythms.<\/div>\n

He is an American musician, actor, and social activist of Jamaican descent. He is known as “the King of the calypso” for popularizing this 1950s Caribbean style of music. His best known song (which took him to the top of the charts in 1957) may be Day-O (Banana Boat Song). He has made appearances on the Muppet Show and his music was used for the film Beetlejuice.<\/div>\n

Outside of her music career, she has fought for human rights and humanitarian causes. He criticized George W. Bush’s policy for the Iraq war. He was also featured in the Grammy Award-winning song We Are the World (1985) .<\/div>\n
