Fue un pianista y compositor estadounidense de jazz. Fue uno de los principales representantes del cool jazz, en su l\u00ednea principal (West Coast jazz) y uno de los m\u00fasicos de jazz m\u00e1s populares entre los no aficionados. He was an American jazz pianist and composer. He was one of the main representatives of cool jazz, in its main line (West Coast jazz) and one of the most popular jazz musicians among non-amateurs. He led the Dave Brubeck Quartet in the 1950s and 1960s, which achieved great success.<\/div>\n

Brubeck wrote numerous jazz standards, including In Your Own Sweet Way and The Duke. Brubeck’s style ranged from refined to exuberant, reflecting influences from classical music and daring improvisation. In much of his music he experimented with the beat, recording Pick Up Sticks on 6\/4, Unsquare Dance on 7\/4 and “Blue Rondo \u00e0 la Turk” on 9\/8.<\/div>\n

His intention was to work with his father on the ranch, so he entered the College of the Pacific in Stockton, California (now called University of the Pacific) to study veterinary medicine, although he soon switched to zoology. There his professor Dr. Arnold told him: “Brubeck, your head is not here. It is in front, in the conservatory. Please go there. Stop wasting our time and yours.” He did so, although he was almost expelled for not knowing how to read sheet music. Some of his teachers supported him, saying that his skill with counterpoint and harmonies more than made up for that lack.<\/div>\n
