Humberto Monroy fue uno de los fundadores de The Speakers, una de las primeras bandas colombianas de rock, claramente influenciada por The Beatles y con la cual grabaron 6 discos, entre ellos uno de los \u00e1lbumes insignia de la psicodelia de Colombia, llamado El maravilloso mundo de Ingeson (1968), que adem\u00e1s se convirti\u00f3 en uno de los primeros trabajos fonogr\u00e1ficos grabados de manera independiente en el pa\u00eds.<\/div>\n

En compa\u00f1\u00eda de Jaime Rodr\u00edguez, perteneciente a la banda Ampex, Mario Renee, Ferdie Fern\u00e1ndez y Roberto Fiorilli, Monroy crea la agrupaci\u00f3n denominada Siglo Cero. Fue un grupo de m\u00fasica progresiva, con composiciones propias y con muchas influencias jazz\u00edsticas. En 1970 sale al mercado el larga duraci\u00f3n llamado \u2018Festival de la vida\u2019, grabado en un concierto realizado en el Parque Nacional de Bogot\u00e1 el 27 de junio de ese a\u00f1o, ante 10 mil personas.<\/div>\n

A mediados de los a\u00f1os 1970 Monroy se reuni\u00f3 con el percusionista Edgar Restrepo y con Federico Taborda, para crear la banda G\u00e9nesis de Colombia. HUMO, como era conocido Monroy, se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como cantante y compositor de la banda, que se convirti\u00f3 en una de las primeras que gener\u00f3 una representaci\u00f3n de los cambios que los j\u00f3venes viv\u00edan en la \u00e9poca.<\/div>\n

Con G\u00e9nesis grab\u00f3 7 trabajos discogr\u00e1ficos, y en los cuales se destacan varias canciones, como una versi\u00f3n de \u2018How can I tell you\u2019 original de Cat Stevens, y su composici\u00f3n de mayor \u00e9xito, \u2018Don Sim\u00f3n\u2019.<\/div>\n

Iniciando la d\u00e9cada de los 80, y con el objetivo de realizar una gira por Europa, G\u00e9nesis se convirti\u00f3 en Ma\u00edz. La nueva agrupaci\u00f3n viaj\u00f3 por territorio europeo durante tres meses, present\u00e1ndose en m\u00e1s de 100 conciertos y con m\u00e1s de una docena de apariciones en programas de televisi\u00f3n.<\/div>\n

Humberto Monroy was one of the founders of The Speakers, one of the first Colombian rock bands, clearly influenced by The Beatles and with which they recorded 6 albums, including one of the flagship albums of the Colombian psychedelia, called The Wonderful World by Ingeson (1968), which also became one of the first independently recorded phonographic works in the country.<\/div>\n

In the company of Jaime Rodr\u00edguez, who belongs to the Ampex band, Mario Renee, Ferdie Fern\u00e1ndez and Roberto Fiorilli, Monroy created the group called Siglo Cero. It was a group of progressive music, with their own compositions and with many jazz influences. In 1970, the full-length called \u2018Festival of Life\u2019 was released, recorded in a concert held in the Bogot\u00e1 National Park on June 27 of that year, in front of 10,000 people.<\/div>\n

HUMO, as Monroy was known, served as a singer and songwriter for the band, which became one of the first that generated a representation of the changes that young people were experiencing at the time.<\/div>\n

At the beginning of the 80s, and with the aime of touring Europe, G\u00e9nesis became Ma\u00edz. The new group traveled throughout Europe for three months, appearing in more than 100 concerts and with more than a dozen appearances on television programs.<\/div>\n
