Luis Gerardo Tovar se inici\u00f3 en el mundo art\u00edstico al estudiar Teatro en el Liceo Ferm\u00edn Toro de Caracas junto a Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud y bajo la tutela de Alberto de Paz y Mateos. Posteriormente se march\u00f3 a Par\u00eds a estudiar Teatro con el dramaturgo rumano Eugene Ionesco y trabaj\u00f3 durante un a\u00f1o como escritor y locutor para Am\u00e9rica Latina en la BBC de Londres, adem\u00e1s que tambi\u00e9n trabaj\u00f3 en otras radioemisoras europeas como Radio Francia Internacional, Deutsche Welle, RAI y la Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a.2 Tras innumerables reconocimientos, Tovar tambi\u00e9n particip\u00f3 como actor en varias telenovelas del canal Venevisi\u00f3n (entre ellas La loba y Daniela) y en las pel\u00edculas Ca\u00edn adolescente de Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud y Le Sauvage, al lado de Catherine Deneuve e Yves Montand.<\/div>\n

Tovar incursion\u00f3 en el medio discogr\u00e1fico como declamador, usando como m\u00fasica de fondo canciones previamente conocidas de diferentes artistas (como el grupo italiano “The comunicatives” y la agrupaci\u00f3n venezolana “Punto Sur”). Este tipo de declamaci\u00f3n denominada \u201cCanci\u00f3n Hablada\u201d se hizo famosa a finales de los 60 y comienzos de los 70 en las voces de diversos actores y locutores, como Clemente Vargas Jr., y algunas de las letras de estos poemas fueron escritas por \u00e9l o por sus colaboradores.<\/div>\n

Adem\u00e1s de lo anterior, Tovar trabaj\u00f3 como locutor en radio, televisi\u00f3n, cine y publicidad. En este \u00faltimo caso, algunas empresas buscaron su voz grave, la cual se hizo “emblem\u00e1tica” para diversos productos e, igualmente, elabor\u00f3 por mucho tiempo los guiones de espect\u00e1culos como el certamen Miss Venezuela. Su trabajo en la locuci\u00f3n fue de tal magnitud que lleg\u00f3 a ser la voz oficial de las propagandas institucionales del gobierno del presidente Luis Herrera Campins (1979-1984), as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n fue la voz para la comunidad hispana en Estados Unidos del Partido Republicano durante la campa\u00f1a para las Elecciones presidenciales de 1984.<\/div>\n

Luis Gerardo Tovar began in the artistic world by studying Theater at the Liceo Ferm\u00edn Toro in Caracas together with Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud and under the tutelage of Alberto de Paz y Mateos. Later he went to Paris to study theater with the Romanian playwright Eugene Ionesco and worked for a year as a writer and broadcaster for Latin America at the BBC in London, in addition to working for other European radio stations such as Radio France International, Deutsche Welle, RAI and the National Radio of Spain.2 After innumerable recognitions, Tovar also participated as an actor in several soap operas on the Venevisi\u00f3n channel (among them La loba and Daniela) and in the films Ca\u00edn Adolescentes by Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud and Le Sauvage, alongside Catherine Deneuve and Yves Montand.<\/div>\n

Tovar ventured into the recording medium as a declaimer, using previously known songs by different artists (such as the Italian group “The comunicatives” and the Venezuelan group “Punto Sur”) as background music. This type of declamation called “Canci\u00f3n Hablada” became famous in the late 60s and early 70s in the voices of various actors and announcers, such as Clemente Vargas Jr., and some of the lyrics of these poems were written by him or by its collaborators.<\/div>\n

In addition to the above, Tovar worked as a radio, television, film and advertising announcer. In the latter case, some companies sought his deep voice, which became “emblematic” for various products and, likewise, he drew up the scripts for shows such as the Miss Venezuela pageant for a long time. His work in the locution was of such magnitude that he became the official voice of the institutional propaganda of the government of President Luis Herrera Campins (1979-1984), as well as was the voice for the Hispanic community in the United States of the Republican Party during the campaign for the 1984 presidential election.<\/div>\n
