Estudi\u00f3 primaria y secundaria en el colegio Champagnat de los hermanos Maristas, ciudad de Santa Tecla. Para 1979 viaj\u00f3 a San Francisco California, EE.UU. donde estudi\u00f3 por un a\u00f1o en la ciudad de Half Moon Bay perfeccionando el idioma ingl\u00e9s, regresando despu\u00e9s a continuar sus estudios en el Champagnat, del cual nunca quiso cambiarse ya que sus padres trataron de ponerlo en La Escuela Alemana pero seg\u00fan sus palabras; “Hice todo lo posible por no quedar en esa escuela”, gradu\u00e1ndose as\u00ed de bachiller en su colegio natal.<\/div>\n

Despu\u00e9s de su graduaci\u00f3n estudi\u00f3 dos a\u00f1os en la Universidad Centro Americana Jos\u00e9 Sime\u00f3n Ca\u00f1as UCA Ingenier\u00eda Mec\u00e1nica retir\u00e1ndose por motivos de salud, comenzando de nuevo en la Universidad Albert Einstein en la cual estudi\u00f3 solamente medio ciclo ya que en 1985 surge la oportunidad de estudiar Ingenier\u00eda de Sonido en Full Sail Center of the Recording Arts viajando a Orlando Florida, EE. UU., y en El Salvador no existe tal carrera, “Me decid\u00ed por la Ingenier\u00eda de Sonido pues en nuestro pa\u00eds es muy dif\u00edcil estudiar m\u00fasica, ya que esta nunca ha sido apreciada como carrera, adem\u00e1s me llam\u00f3 mucho la atenci\u00f3n el aspecto t\u00e9cnico del arte musical, desde el d\u00eda en que tuvimos con OVNI nuestra primera experiencia en un estudio (supuestamente de los mejores en el pa\u00eds), la grabaci\u00f3n qued\u00f3 tan mala que pens\u00e9: deber\u00edamos de tener nuestro propio estudio para poder producir como nosotros realmente queremos”.<\/div>\n

Estas se dieron a conocer desde muy joven pero especialmente a los 11 \u00f3 12 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de escuchar un disco de The Beatles llamado The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, eso cambi\u00f3 todo.<\/div>\n

Carmela, amiga de la familia regala una guitarra a R.A. y con m\u00e9todos de guitarra f\u00e1cil empieza su seudo-educaci\u00f3n musical, esto lo hizo empezar a componer y cantar sus propios temas, a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s recibir\u00eda clases un par de meses con Don C\u00e1ndido Morales, disc\u00edpulo de Mangor\u00e9, quien le ense\u00f1ar\u00eda las t\u00e9cnicas b\u00e1sicas de guitarra cl\u00e1sica, despertando su inter\u00e9s por otros instrumentos como el bajo, los teclados, la flauta dulce, la arm\u00f3nica, la bater\u00eda y \u00faltimamente por el charango. La afici\u00f3n por cantar y tocar la guitarra despert\u00f3 la curiosidad de sus compa\u00f1eros de f\u00f3rmula y sin realmente propon\u00e9rselo formaron KARN con su hermano Mauricio, Ayax y Kristi\u00e1n Calder\u00f3n. “El grupo surgi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de una amistad que de un inter\u00e9s musical”. Lo dem\u00e1s es parte de la historia de OVNI.<\/div>\n

Los proyectos individuales de R.A. comenzaron a finales de los 80’s cuando junto con Roberto Salamanca y otro amigo (del cual no puede mencionar su nombre) formaron un grupo llamado “Ensamble Guitarra” pero fue en 1990 con el tema “Eres Yo”, cuando se promovi\u00f3 como solista paralelamente al proyecto OVNI, posteriormente surgieron temas como; “Mi Ella, T\u00fa”, “Puedes Ver”, “Mis Huellas”, etc. con los cuales hizo un \u00e1lbum llamado “TRAS LAS HUELLAS” el cual nunca sali\u00f3 a la venta.<\/div>\n

“OVNI se desintegr\u00f3 pues ya no nos aguant\u00e1bamos, necesit\u00e1bamos m\u00e1s espacio para desarrollarnos musicalmente”. Tras la disoluci\u00f3n del grupo en 1995 se enfrasc\u00f3 en su proyecto “RETRATOS” un \u00e1lbum en el cual demuestra sus dotes como cantautor, m\u00fasico, arreglista y productor. En 1997 libera el primer sencillo “Retrato de una Pregunta a Dios” y luego los temas “Retrato de un Libro” y “Retrato de un So\u00f1ador” los tres con sus respectivos videos. “Retratos fue un \u00e1lbum muy introspectivo, en el cual pude expresar abiertamente mi sentir y pensar sin comprometer a otros miembros de un grupo, demostr\u00e1ndome que tanto pod\u00eda hacer musicalmente yo solo. Tambi\u00e9n fue interesante descubrir que nunca podr\u00eda lograr el sonido de OVNI por mi mismo”.<\/div>\n

Rafael, junto a Mauricio y Kristi\u00e1n deciden reunirse nuevamente y re-enfocarse en un proyecto musical que comenz\u00f3 a mediados de 1998 y es as\u00ed que el doble CD “OVNI, Entre Seres y sus Ra\u00edces” es finalmente lanzado en el a\u00f1o 2000. Con esta producci\u00f3n OVNI logra darse a conocer el el mercado Europeo, en donde recibe muy buenos reviews por parte de revistas especializadas.<\/div>\n

He studied primary and secondary school at the Champagnat school of the Marist brothers, city of Santa Tecla. In 1979 he traveled to San Francisco California, USA where he studied for a year in the city of Half Moon Bay perfecting the English language, returning later to continue his studies at Champagnat, from which he never wanted to change since his parents tried to put it in The German School but according to his words; “He did everything possible not to stay in that school”, thus graduating from high school in his native school.<\/div>\n

After graduation, he studied for two years at the Jos\u00e9 Sime\u00f3n Ca\u00f1as Central American University, UCA Mechanical Engineering, retiring for health reasons, starting again at the Albert Einstein University in which he studied only half a cycle since in 1985 the opportunity to study Mechanical Engineering arose. Carmela, a friend of the family, gives R.A. a guitar. and with easy guitar methods he began his musical pseudo-education, this made him start composing and singing his own songs, years later he would receive classes for a couple of months with Don C\u00e1ndido Morales, a disciple of Mangor\u00e9, who would teach him basic guitar techniques classical, awakening his interest in other instruments such as bass, keyboards, recorder, harmonica, drums and lately the charango. In 1997 he released the first single “Portrait of a Question to God” and then the songs “Portrait of a Book” and “Portrait of a Dreamer” all three with their respective videos. “Portraits was a very introspective album, in which I was able to openly express my feelings and thoughts without compromising other members of a group, showing myself how much I could do musically alone. It was also interesting to discover that I could never achieve the UFO sound for myself. same”.<\/div>\n

Rafael, together with Mauricio and Kristi\u00e1n decide to meet again and refocus on a musical project that began in mid-1998 and that is how the double CD “OVNI, Entre Seres y sus Ra\u00edces” is finally released in 2000.
