El m\u00e1s c\u00e9lebre m\u00fasico, compositor e int\u00e9rprete del g\u00e9nero popular venezolano. Conocido mayormente por el rescate de la Tonada Llanera. Su padre fue el maestro Juan y su madre Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda, tuvieron 8 hijos y Sim\u00f3n vivi\u00f3 desde peque\u00f1o inmerso en la m\u00fasica donde su padre le ense\u00f1\u00f3 lo b\u00e1sico y en la vida t\u00edpica del campo. Comenz\u00f3 su carrera improvisando coplas y tonadas que escuchaba de los artistas locales. Su padre tocaba el cornet\u00edn en la banda del pueblo, y lo anim\u00f3 a aprender a tocar el cuatro y a componer y cantar boleros. A los 12 a\u00f1os muri\u00f3 su padre y le toc\u00f3 ayudar a la familia. En aquel entonces dedic\u00f3 buena parte de su tiempo a vender dulces, empanadas y otras comidas preparadas por su mam\u00e1 para sostener a sus siete hermanos.<\/div>\n

Cuando ten\u00eda 20 a\u00f1os viaj\u00f3 a Caracas y se inscribi\u00f3 en la Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica. All\u00ed estudi\u00f3 por seis a\u00f1os bajo la direcci\u00f3n de Vicente Emilio Sojo. Convencido de que la tonada del llano venezolano es un aire musical de caracter\u00edsticas \u00fanicas, se dedic\u00f3 enteramente a difundirla, estudiarla y componerla hasta constituirla en un aut\u00e9ntico g\u00e9nero musical.<\/div>\n

Su pasi\u00f3n por el canto y la actuaci\u00f3n lo lleva al teatro, el cine y la televisi\u00f3n, todos dise\u00f1ados para promover la m\u00fasica venezolana, uno de los cuales lo dedic\u00f3 a la ense\u00f1anza de la cultura popular s\u00f3lo para ni\u00f1os. Este programa estuvo 10 a\u00f1os en el aire, y de esta experiencia Sim\u00f3n D\u00edaz pas\u00f3 a llamarse “T\u00edo Sim\u00f3n”, nombre con el que se le conoce cari\u00f1osamente. D\u00edaz grab\u00f3 su primer \u00e1lbum como cantante y compositor en 1963 y desde entonces ha grabado muchos otros, en su r\u00e9cord discogr\u00e1fico cuenta con m\u00e1s de 70 producciones musicales. Mantuvo la conducci\u00f3n de un programa diario para la radio por espacio de 25 a\u00f1os, tambi\u00e9n dedicado al folklore y la m\u00fasica venezolana.<\/div>\n

Son innumerables las actuaciones art\u00edsticas que ha realizado a lo largo de su carrera, As\u00ed mismo, destacados directores y compositores de la m\u00fasica acad\u00e9mica han llevado las tonadas de Sim\u00f3n D\u00edaz al lenguaje de la orquesta sinf\u00f3nica y arreglos corales, sellando de esta manera el car\u00e1cter universal de este g\u00e9nero musical. \u201cCaballo Viejo\u201d es una de las canciones venezolanas m\u00e1s famosas en el mundo entero, tiene 350 versiones, ha sido traducida a 12 idiomas y ha sido entonada por vocalistas de renombre mundial Sim\u00f3n Diaz.<\/div>\n

Recibi\u00f3 los premios m\u00e1s importantes que otorga su pa\u00eds en materia musical. Fue distinguido con la m\u00e1s alta condecoraci\u00f3n que otorga el estado venezolano, es decir, la “Orden del Libertador en su Orden de Gran Cord\u00f3n”, constituy\u00e9ndose en el \u00fanico artista nacional al que se le haya impuesto dicha distinci\u00f3n. Represent\u00f3 a Venezuela en Francia, Inglaterra, Espa\u00f1a, Polonia, Hungr\u00eda, Irak, Estados Unidos, M\u00e9xico, Panam\u00e1, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Chile, Brasil, Cuba y Colombia.<\/div>\n

La cadena de televisi\u00f3n A&E Mundo produjo un documental en su espacio \u201cBiography\u201d dedicado a su vida y que se estren\u00f3 en el mes de septiembre de 2004. En el a\u00f1o 2008, se hace acreedor del Grammy Latino a la Trayectoria, esta distinci\u00f3n especial es otorgada a individuos que, durante sus carreras musicales, han realizado importantes aportes tal como lo ha hecho el maestro Sim\u00f3n Diaz.<\/div>\n

Complicaciones de salud lo llevaron a retirarse hace unos a\u00f1os de los escenarios, sin embargo, su esposa Betty de D\u00edaz refiere que su pasi\u00f3n por la m\u00fasica sigue vigente en sus recuerdos y con frecuencia se pasea por la casa cantando \u201cLa vaca mariposa\u201d. Seg\u00fan Il\u00e1n Chester (cantautor venezolano) “El significado de la vida de Sim\u00f3n va m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de sus canciones\u2026 Sim\u00f3n representa a esa Venezuela org\u00e1nica y hermosa que, a trav\u00e9s del canto, nos recuerda el llano; representa a esa Venezuela sensible y bella\u2026 Es el padre cultural de Venezuela”.<\/div>\n

Known mostly for the rescue of the Tonada Llanera. His father was the teacher Juan and his mother Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda, they had 8 children and Sim\u00f3n lived since he was a child immersed in music where his father taught him the basics and typical life in the country side. He started his career improvising verses and tunes that he heard from local artists. His father played the cornet in the village band, and encouraged him to learn to play the cuatro and to compose and sing boleros. At the age of 12 his father died and he had to help the family. At that time he dedicated a good part of his time to selling sweets, empanadas and other foods prepared by his mother to support his seven siblings.<\/div>\n

When he was 20 years old he traveled to Caracas and enrolled in the Higher School of Music. There he studied for six years under the direction of Vicente Emilio Sojo. Convinced that the tune of the Venezuelan plain is a musical air with unique characteristics, he devoted himself entirely to spreading it, studying it and composing it until it became an authentic musical genre.<\/div>\n

His passion for singing and acting leads him to theater, film and television, all designed to promote Venezuelan music, one of which he dedicated to teaching popular culture just for children. This program was on the air for 10 years, and from this experience Sim\u00f3n D\u00edaz became known as “Uncle Sim\u00f3n”, a name by which he is affectionately known. D\u00edaz recorded his first album as a singer and songwriter in 1963 and since then he has recorded many others, in his record record he has more than 70 musical productions. He maintained the conduction of a daily radio program for 25 years, also dedicated to Venezuelan folklore and music.<\/div>\n

The television channel A&E Mundo produced a documentary in its space “Biography” dedicated to his life and which premiered in September 2004. Health complications led him to retire a few years ago from the stage, however, his wife Betty de D\u00edaz says that his passion for music continues in his memories and he frequently walks around the house singing \u201c The butterfly cow \u201d. According to Il\u00e1n Chester (Venezuelan singer-songwriter) “The meaning of Sim\u00f3n’s life goes beyond his songs. Sim\u00f3n represents that organic and beautiful Venezuela that, through song, reminds us of the plain; it represents that sensitive and beautiful Venezuela … He is the cultural father of Venezuela. “<\/div>\n
