La suya fue una familia amante de la m\u00fasica y numerosa integrada por ocho hijos, dos de ellos adoptados; Caetano aprendi\u00f3 en su casa a tocar el piano y a los nueve a\u00f1os compuso su primera canci\u00f3n, un bai\u00e3o. Cuando lleg\u00f3 el momento de los estudios universitarios, junto a su hermana Mar\u00eda Beth\u00e2nia, se traslad\u00f3 a Salvador de Bah\u00eda, donde pas\u00f3 su juventud y estudi\u00f3 Arte en la Universidad.<\/div>\n

A fines de 1966 acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a su hermana Beth\u00e2nia, quien hab\u00eda sido invitada a cantar en una obra musical en R\u00edo de Janeiro; obtuvo su primer \u00e9xito cuando su hermana grab\u00f3 su primera composici\u00f3n.<\/div>\n

R\u00e1pidamente gan\u00f3 algunos premios y pudo grabar su primer \u00e1lbum con Gal Costa: Domingo. En 1968, junto a Gilberto Gil, fue uno de los primeros emprendedores del Tropicalismo o Tropic\u00e1lia, movimiento cultural cuyo objetivo era la re-evaluaci\u00f3n vanguardista de la m\u00fasica tradicional brasile\u00f1a. Grab\u00f3 en 1968 su primer \u00e1lbum solista llamado Caetano Veloso y su m\u00fasica cruz\u00f3 las fronteras con su controvertida “\u00c9 proibido proibir”.<\/div>\n

En 1969 debido a la dictadura que asolaba Brasil, Veloso se vio obligado a exiliarse a Londres (Reino Unido). Tres a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde regres\u00f3 a Brasil y grab\u00f3 Ara\u00e7\u00e1 Azul, un disco experimental.<\/div>\n

En 1976 form\u00f3 un grupo con Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa y Mar\u00eda Beth\u00e2nia, idealizado por esta \u00faltima, e hicieron una gira por Brasil con el nombre de “Doces B\u00e1rbaros”.<\/div>\n

Bicho fue lanzado en 1977 influenciado por el contacto que tuviera con la cultura nigeriana, donde hab\u00eda estado algunos meses antes. Ese mismo a\u00f1o fue publicado Alegr\u00eda, un libro que es una colecci\u00f3n de art\u00edculos y poemas que abarca desde 1965 hasta 1976.<\/div>\n

En 1981 tuvo gran \u00e9xito con Outras palavras, y a partir de entonces su fama se extendi\u00f3 a todos los rincones del mundo. Ya en 1989 fue lanzado Estrangeiro. En 1991 fue lanzado un nuevo \u00e1lbum llamado Circulad\u00f4. La letra que di\u00f3 nombre al \u00e1lbum fue un poema de Haroldo Campos, poeta brasile\u00f1o. El dise\u00f1o de la tapa de Circulad\u00f4 ao vivo fue idea de Caetano y fue lanzada en 1992 como una pieza maestra. En 1993 fue lanzado Tropic\u00e1lia 2 con Gilberto Gil. Fina Estampa aparece en el 2000 y Noites do Norte en 2001. En 2006 lanza un su album “Ce”, con canciones in\u00e9ditas de su autor\u00eda.<\/div>\n

His was a large music-loving family made up of eight children, two of them adopted; Caetano learned at his house to play the piano and at the age of nine he composed his first song, a bai\u00e3o. When he came to university, together with his sister Mar\u00eda Beth\u00e2nia, he moved to Salvador de Bah\u00eda, where he spent his youth and studied art at the University.<\/div>\n

At the end of 1966 he accompanied his sister Beth\u00e2nia, who had been invited to sing in a musical in Rio de Janeiro; he got his first hit when his sister recorded his first composition.<\/div>\n

He quickly won some awards and was able to record his first album with Gal Costa: Domingo. In 1968, together with Gilberto Gil, he was one of the first entrepreneurs of Tropicalismo or Tropic\u00e1lia, a cultural movement whose objective was the avant-garde re-evaluation of traditional Brazilian music. He recorded in 1968 his first solo album called Caetano Veloso and his music crossed borders with his controversial “\u00c9 proibido proibir”.<\/div>\n

In 1969 due to the dictatorship that devastated Brazil, Veloso was forced to go into exile in London (United Kingdom). Three years later he returned to Brazil and recorded Ara\u00e7\u00e1 Azul, an experimental album.<\/div>\n

Bug was released in 1977 influenced by the contact he had with Nigerian culture, where he had been a few months before. That same year, Alegr\u00eda was published, a book that is a collection of articles and poems that ranges from 1965 to 1976.<\/div>\n

In 1981 he had great success with Outras Palavras, and from then on his fame spread to all corners of the world. Already in 1989 Estrangeiro was launched. In 1991 a new album called Circulad\u00f4 was released. The lyrics that gave the album its name were a poem by Haroldo Campos, a Brazilian poet. The cover design for Circulad\u00f4 ao vivo was Caetano’s idea and was released in 1992 as a showpiece. In 1993 Tropic\u00e1lia 2 was released with Gilberto Gil. Fina Estampa appeared in 2000 and Noites do Norte in 2001. In 2006 he released his album “Ce”, with unreleased songs of his own.<\/div>\n
