Jerry Rivera naci\u00f3 en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Realiz\u00f3 sus estudios primarios y secundarios en esa ciudad. Sus padres eran m\u00fasicos, lo impulsaron a convertirse tambi\u00e9n en un m\u00fasico y ya desde ni\u00f1o acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a su madre, Dominga (cantante) y a su padre Edwin (guitarrista y director de Los Barones Tr\u00edo) durante sus actuaciones. Su hermano mayor Edwin Rivera tambi\u00e9n es un reconocido artista de Salsa.<\/div>\n

Sus cantantes favoritos son Eddie Santiago, Lalo Rodr\u00edguez y, en especial, Frankie Ruiz. En 1986, cuando ten\u00eda 14 a\u00f1os, acompa\u00f1\u00f3 a su padre que estaba actuando en un hotel en Isla Verde, San Juan. Frankie Ruiz, que estaba hospedado en el hotel, apareci\u00f3 y cant\u00f3 un par de canciones con ellos y se fotografiaron juntos. El 21 de octubre de 2003 dicha fotograf\u00eda fue usada por Jerry como portada de su disco tributo Canto a mi \u00eddolo… Frankie Ruiz, que hab\u00eda muerto en 1998. En 1988, Tommy Olivencia escuch\u00f3 a Jerry cantar junto a su padre y le recomend\u00f3 que empezase su carrera en solitario. Cuando Jerry ten\u00eda tan solo 16 a\u00f1os, su padre hizo una maqueta y la present\u00f3 al departamento musical de CBS, que hizo que lo contrataran.<\/div>\n

Su segundo disco, Abriendo puertas, tuvo grandes \u00e9xitos con sus canciones “Esa ni\u00f1a”, “Tal vez”, “Como un milagro” y “Nada sin ti”, que convirtieron al disco en n\u00famero uno de las listas de Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos y finalmente por toda Am\u00e9rica Latina. Su tercer disco, Cuenta conmigo (1992), gan\u00f3 tres discos de platino en los Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico, Venezuela y Colombia.<\/div>\n

Jerry recibi\u00f3 dos premios Lo Nuestro como “Cantante del A\u00f1o” y “Disco del A\u00f1o” y Sony Discos le dieron tres Crystal Awards. En 1995 realiza una versi\u00f3n (en salsa) de la canci\u00f3n Suave que a\u00f1os anteriores hab\u00eda sido interpretada Luis Miguel, de quien Jerry Rivera dijo en una entrevista ser “su admirador” y tomarlo como “modelo de inspiraci\u00f3n y modelo a seguir”. En 1998, Rivera grab\u00f3 De otra manera, que inclu\u00eda el bolero “\u00c9se”. Jerry cant\u00f3 la canci\u00f3n con su padre en el Coliseo Roberto Clemente de San Juan.<\/div>\n

Jerry Rivera was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He completed his primary and secondary studies in that city. His parents were musicians, they encouraged him to also become a musicians and as a child he accompanied his mother, Dominga (singer) and his father Edwin (guitarist and director of Los Barones Tr\u00edo) during his performances. . His older brother Edwin Rivera is also a renowned Salsa artist.<\/div>\n

His favorite singers are Eddie Santiago, Lalo Rodr\u00edguez and, especially, Frankie Ruiz. In 1986, when he was 14 years old, he accompanied his father who was performing at a hotel in Isla Verde, San Juan. Frankie Ruiz, who was staying at the hotel, appeared and sang a couple of songs with them and they had their photo taken together. On October 21, 2003, this photograph was used by Jerry as the cover of his tribute album Canto a mi idol. Frankie Ruiz, who had died in 1998. In 1988, Tommy Olivencia heard Jerry sing with his father and recommended to start his solo career. When Jerry was just 16 years old, his father made a demo and presented it to the CBS music department, who got him hired.<\/div>\n

His second album, Opening doors, had great successes with his songs “That girl”, “Maybe”, “Like a miracle” and “Nothing without you”, which made the album number one on the charts in Puerto Rico, United States. United and finally throughout Latin America. His third album, Count Me (1992), won three platinum records in the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Colombia.<\/div>\n

Jerry received two Lo Nuestro awards as “Singer of the Year” and “Record of the Year” and Sony Discos gave him three Crystal Awards. In 1995 he made a version (in salsa) of the song Suave that Luis Miguel had performed in previous years, whom Jerry Rivera said in an interview to be “his admirer of him” and to take him as a “model of inspiration and role model.” In 1998, Rivera recorded In Another Way, which included the bolero “\u00c9se”. Jerry sang the song with his father at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan.<\/div>\n
