Considerada la “voz de Am\u00e9rica Latina”; con sus ra\u00edces en la m\u00fasica folcl\u00f3rica argentina, se convirti\u00f3 en una de las exponentes principales de la nueva canci\u00f3n, incursionando en g\u00e9neros como el tango, el rock, el pop, etc. En palabras de su compatriota Fito P\u00e1ez: “Mercedes Sosa es la mejor cantante que ha dado este pa\u00eds”.<\/div>\n

Registro Vocal: “La Negra” Sosa es muy admirada por la profundidad y singular belleza de su voz contralto. Su registro vocal es de casi dos octavas, y su punto fuerte es la potencia con que afronta los graves. Gracias a su timbre oscuro y c\u00e1lido, y a una perfecta entonaci\u00f3n, la convierten, sin duda, en una de las voces m\u00e1s destacables de la historia de la m\u00fasica.<\/div>\n

Es de descendencia mestiza de franceses y amerindios (quechuas). En 1950, a los quince a\u00f1os, gan\u00f3 un concurso musical organizado por una estaci\u00f3n de radio local y la contrataron durante dos meses.<\/div>\n

Sosa y su primer marido, Manuel Oscar Matus, con el que tuvo un hijo, fueron int\u00e9rpretes clave del movimiento de la nueva canci\u00f3n a mediado de los a\u00f1os 1960 (que fue llamado nuevo cancionero en Argentina). Su primer disco fue Canciones con Fundamento, una colecci\u00f3n de folklore argentino.<\/div>\n

En 1967, Sosa hizo una exitosa gira por los Estados Unidos y Europa. En los a\u00f1os subsiguientes, continu\u00f3 actuando y grabando, extendiendo su repertorio hasta incluir material de toda America Latina.<\/div>\n

A comienzo de los a\u00f1os 1970, Sosa public\u00f3 dos concept albums en colaboraci\u00f3n con el compositor Ariel Ram\u00edrez y el letrista F\u00e9lix Luna: Cantata Sudamericana y Mujeres Argentinas. Tambi\u00e9n hizo un tributo a la gran folclorista Chilena Violeta Parra.<\/div>\n

Simpatizante de Per\u00f3n en su juventud, apoy\u00f3 las causas de izquierda a lo largo de su vida. Tras la subida al poder de la junta militar de Jorge Videla, la represi\u00f3n en Argentina era cada vez m\u00e1s fuerte, hasta que en 1979 en un concierto en La Plata, Sosa fue cacheada y detenida en el propio escenario y el p\u00fablico asistente arrestado. Prohibida en su propio pa\u00eds, se exili\u00f3 en Paris y despu\u00e9s en Madrid. Su segundo marido hab\u00eda muerto en 1978<\/div>\n

Sosa volvi\u00f3 a Argentina en 1982, unos meses antes de que el r\u00e9gimen militar sucumbiera tras la Guerra de Malvinas, dando una serie de conciertos en el Teatro \u00d3pera de Buenos Aires, donde invit\u00f3 a muchos de sus j\u00f3venes colegas a compartir el escenario. Un doble \u00e1lbum con canciones de estas actuaciones fueron \u00e9xito de ventas de inmediato.<\/div>\n

Durante los a\u00f1os siguientes Sosa continu\u00f3 dando recitales dentro y fuera de Argentina, actuando en escenarios tan prestigiosos como el Lincoln Center, el Carnegie Hall y el Mogador de Par\u00eds.<\/div>\n

She is of mixed descent of French and Amerindians (Quechua). In 1950, at the age of fifteen, she won a musical contest organized by a local radio station and was hired for two months.<\/div>\n
