Desde inicios de 1980, con apenas 16 a\u00f1os, junto a su hermano Salvador Cardenal (Distrito Federal, 6 de octubre de 1960 – Managua, 8 de marzo de 2010) y con el nombre de D\u00fao Guardabarranco (p\u00e1jaro nacional de Nicaragua), empez\u00f3 a presentarse p\u00fablicamente en Nicaragua revolucionaria, recorrieron escuelas, f\u00e1bricas, teatros, pueblos, campamentos, etc.<\/div>\n

La frescura de sus armon\u00edas y la originalidad po\u00e9tica y mel\u00f3dica de sus canciones fueron reconocidas, no solo por el p\u00fablico, sino por la comunidad internacional del Movimiento de la Nueva Canci\u00f3n Latinoamericana. Con solo un a\u00f1o de experiencia empezaron a realizar giras internacionales por Am\u00e9rica y Europa, participando en festivales de M\u00fasica Folk, Canci\u00f3n Pol\u00edtica, Estudiantiles, del Arte o de la Canci\u00f3n, Campa\u00f1as de Solidaridad, del Medio Ambiente o los Derechos Humanos.<\/div>\n

Katia y Salvador estuvieron haciendo m\u00fasica juntos durante 30 a\u00f1os, desde el 8 de febrero de 1980 hasta el 8 de febrero del 2010, un mes antes de que Salvador ingresara al hospital a causa de una septicemia causada por una infecci\u00f3n a consecuencia de una enfermedad que le caus\u00f3 la muerte el 8 de marzo del 2010.<\/div>\n

Simult\u00e1neamente con su labor como cantante y a ratos compositora, logr\u00f3 graduarse como educadora musical en la Escuela Nacional de M\u00fasica de Managua, en 1984, y trabaj\u00f3 como maestra de flauta dulce y solfeo para ni\u00f1os y adolescentes en diferentes escuelas de 1984 a 1994.<\/div>\n

En 1996 graba en Nicaragua Brazos de Sol, su primer disco como solista, donde reafirma su vocaci\u00f3n de trovadora al interpretar algunos temas de su autor\u00eda as\u00ed como otros de variados cantautores hispanoamericanos. En 1996 se muda a Noruega y graba 6 discos m\u00e1s como solista con la disquera noruega Kirkelig kulturverksted.<\/div>\n

Navegas por las costas en 1999, disco que permanece m\u00e1s de 15 semanas en el Top 40 de popularidad en Noruega y la hace ganadora de un Disco de oro, En Reveslandia 1999, ambos discos contienen canciones de Alf Pr\u00f8ysen en espa\u00f1ol, Ven a mi casa esta Navidad 2000, Fragancia (canciones de Evert Taube en espa\u00f1ol) 2001, Sue\u00f1o de una noche de verano (canciones de Silvio Rodr\u00edguez) 2002 y Messe for Kari og Ola 2008, versi\u00f3n biling\u00fce de la Misa Campesina Nicarag\u00fcense con el coro noruego Skruk. En el a\u00f1o 2000 se muda de regreso a Nicaragua. Crea su propio sello disquero MOKA DISCOS y graba Hojarasca 2004, Mariposa de alas rotas 2007, Misa campesina nicarag\u00fcense 2008, Trampolin 2017, Basta un suspiro 2019,<\/div>\n

The freshness of his harmonies and the poetic and melodic originality of his songs were recognized, not only by the public, but by the international community of the New Latin American Song Movement. With only one year of experience, they began to make international tours of America and Europe, participating in festivals of Folk Music, Political Song, Students, Art or Song, Solidarity Campaigns, the Environment or Human Rights.<\/div>\n
