Es considerado un director de culto, y uno de los m\u00e1s brillantes cineastas de su pa\u00eds. Sus pel\u00edculas Cr\u00f3nica de un ni\u00f1o solo y El romance del Aniceto y la Francisca suelen ser evaluadas entre las mejores de la historia del cine argentino.<\/div>\n

Como cantante y compositor fue uno de los precursores de la balada rom\u00e1ntica latinoamericana en los a\u00f1os sesenta y setenta, alcanzando el \u00e9xito en toda Am\u00e9rica Latina.<\/div>\n

Trabaj\u00f3 de extra en la pel\u00edcula El \u00c1ngel de Espa\u00f1a (1958), del cineasta peruano Enrique Carreras, y posteriormente \u2015bajo el padrinazgo de Babsy Torre Nilsson\u2015 comenz\u00f3 su carrera de actor participando en filmaciones como El secuestrador (1958) y Fin de fiesta (1960), entre otras. Su dote de director naci\u00f3 con el cortometraje El amigo (1960), contando ya con una obra a cuestas, pero inconclusa: El se\u00f1or Fern\u00e1ndez (1958).<\/div>\n

En 1969 Favio estren\u00f3 El dependiente, basado en un cuento de su hermano y coguionista Jorge Zuhair Jury (1937) \u2015tambi\u00e9n director, escritor, actor y pintor\u2015. La pel\u00edcula fue catalogada por el entonces Instituto Nacional de Cinematograf\u00eda (hoy INCAA: Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales) de \u00abexhibici\u00f3n no obligatoria\u00bb, significando la supresi\u00f3n del apoyo oficial argentino hacia el filme.<\/div>\n

De peque\u00f1o Favio aprendi\u00f3 a tocar la guitarra, intercambiando clases por trabajo. Antes del reconocimiento solo cantaba en reuniones \u00edntimas, entre amigos y familiares. Su debut como cantante le llev\u00f3 a La Botica del \u00c1ngel, a manos de Eduardo Bergara Leumann. Ese mismo d\u00eda un ejecutivo de la CBS le propuso grabar un disco, resultando el primer sencillo de Favio \u00abQuiero la libertad\u00bb, un gran fracaso. La productora entonces le aconsej\u00f3 grabar \u00abFuiste m\u00eda un verano\u00bb y \u00abO quiz\u00e1s simplemente le regale una rosa\u00bb; \u00edconos de su primer \u00e1lbum, tambi\u00e9n titulado Fuiste m\u00eda un verano (1968). El disco result\u00f3 emblem\u00e1tico, constituyendo el m\u00e1s cl\u00e1sico de sus repertorios. Tras su participaci\u00f3n en el Festival Internacional de la Canci\u00f3n de Vi\u00f1a del Mar (en Chile), Leonardo consolid\u00f3 su fama internacional.<\/div>\n

Aunque durante sus \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se hab\u00eda hecho correr el rumor de que padec\u00eda c\u00e1ncer,se confirm\u00f3 que tuvo que someterse a varios tratamientos por sufrir hepatitis C cr\u00f3nica. Luego de estar varias semanas internado, falleci\u00f3 de una neumon\u00eda a los 74 a\u00f1os en una cl\u00ednica de Buenos Aires, el 5 de noviembre de 2012.<\/div>\n

As a child Favio learned to play the guitar, exchanging classes for work. Before the recognition he only sang in intimate gatherings, among friends and family. His debut as a singer led him to La Botica del \u00c1ngel, at the hands of Eduardo Bergara Leumann. That same day, a CBS executive proposed to him to record an album, resulting in Favio’s first single “I want freedom”, a great failure. The producer then advised him to record “You were mine for a summer” and “Or maybe I’ll just give him a rose”; icons from her first album, also titled You were mine one summer (1968). The album was emblematic, constituting the most classic of their repertoires. After his participation in the Vi\u00f1a del Mar International Song Festival (in Chile), Leonardo consolidated his international fame.<\/div>\n

Although the rumor had spread that he suffered from cancer in his later years, it was confirmed that he had to undergo various treatments for suffering from chronic hepatitis C. After being hospitalized for several weeks, he died of pneumonia at age 74 in a clinic in Buenos Aires, on November 5, 2012.<\/div>\n
