Paul Carrack, es un cantante, m\u00fasico y compositor brit\u00e1nico, naci\u00f3 en Sheffield un 22 de abril de 1951. Siendo ni\u00f1o descubri\u00f3 su gran vocaci\u00f3n: la m\u00fasica; otra de sus pasiones es el f\u00fatbol. Hoy en d\u00eda sigue siendo un gran admirador del Sheffield Wednesday. Empez\u00f3 a tocar la bater\u00eda en grupos que se formaban en el colegio. Cuando cumpli\u00f3 los 16 a\u00f1os vendi\u00f3 su bater\u00eda y se compr\u00f3 un \u00f3rgano Vox Continental. A los 17, se propuso conocer mundo y durante un tiempo estuvo viajando por Europa donde para ganarse la vida tocaba canciones famosas en lugares tan ex\u00f3ticos como el Reeperbahn de Hamburgo. Al regresar de Europa colabor\u00f3 en la creaci\u00f3n de un grupo llamado Warm Dust que surgi\u00f3 con algunos m\u00fasicos que m\u00e1s tarde, en 1973, formar\u00edan parte de Ace.<\/div>\n

Con Ace, Carrack encontr\u00f3 su verdadero lugar en el mundo de la m\u00fasica ya que empez\u00f3 a destacar como solista principal y como compositor. Ace lleg\u00f3 a ser un grupo de \u00e9xito con canciones como “How Long” con la consiguieron ser n\u00famero 1 en, pr\u00e1cticamente, todo el mundo. Despu\u00e9s de cuatro a\u00f1os y tres discos publicados la banda se disolvi\u00f3.<\/div>\n

A partir de entonces, Paul busc\u00f3 trabajo como teclista de sesi\u00f3n. De ese modo colabor\u00f3 con artistas como Frankie Miller o Roxy Music, entre otros. Durante esta etapa, Paul grab\u00f3 su primer \u00e1lbum en solitario, “Nightbird”.<\/div>\n

En 1980, le ofrecieron sustituir a Jools Holland como teclista del grupo Squeeze. Cuando Carrack lleg\u00f3 al estudio, acababan de grabar una versi\u00f3n de “Tempted” interpretada por Glenn Tillbrook, pero siguiendo una sugerencia del productor, Elvis Costello, el grupo volvi\u00f3 a grabarla, esta vez con Paul Carrack como voz solista y como teclista con su \u00f3rgano Hammond. As\u00ed naci\u00f3 uno de los temas cl\u00e1sicos de Squeeze que a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde, en 1994, fue incluido en la banda sonora de la pel\u00edcula “Reality Bites”.<\/div>\n

Un a\u00f1o m\u00e1s tarde, Paul dej\u00f3 la banda para publicar su segundo disco en solitario, “Suburban Voodo”, producido por su gran amigo Nick Lowe. Ese trabajo inclu\u00eda el tema “I Need You” que se convirti\u00f3 en un gran \u00e9xito en los Estados Unidos y del que m\u00e1s tarde Aaron Neville y Linda Ronstadt realizaron una versi\u00f3n.<\/div>\n

En 1985, Paul recibi\u00f3 una oferta para incorporarse al nuevo grupo de Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Mike & The Mechanics como teclista y voz principal, y en que tambi\u00e9n estaba el cantante Paul Young (Sad Caf\u00e9). De ese modo, comenz\u00f3 una nueva etapa en la trayectoria musical de Paul Carrack ya que con esta banda alcanz\u00f3 un gran \u00e9xito en todo el mundo gracias a canciones como “Silent Running” o “The Living Years”, \u00e9sta \u00faltima nominada a los premios Grammy.<\/div>\n

En cualquier caso, Carrack en ning\u00fan momento abandon\u00f3 su trabajo como solista y public\u00f3 otros dos discos: “One Good Reason” y “Groove Approved” ,con los que tambi\u00e9n triunf\u00f3 en Estados Unidos. De esta manera, obtuvo un gran reconocimiento como m\u00fasico, cantante y compositor colaborando con artistas como The Smiths, The Pretenders, Roger Waters, Elvis Costello o Paul Young, entre otros; o cediendo sus letras a Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Aswad, Michael Mc Donald o Tom Jones.<\/div>\n

La consagraci\u00f3n definitiva como solista le lleg\u00f3 con el \u00e1lbum “Blue Views” grabado en enero de 1995 y con el que roz\u00f3 las 100.000 copias vendidas en Espa\u00f1a. Ese disco incluy\u00f3, entre otros, los singles “How Long” (una nueva adaptaci\u00f3n) y “Eyes of Blue” que form\u00f3 parte de la banda sonora de “When Saturday Comes”, una pel\u00edcula basada en el mundo del f\u00fatbol brit\u00e1nico y protagonizada por Sea Bean y Emily Lloyd. Tambi\u00e9n aparec\u00eda una adaptaci\u00f3n de un tema cl\u00e1sico de Eagles: “Love Will Keep Us Alive”, que Carrack escribi\u00f3 para los californianos. Tras el lanzamiento de ese \u00e1lbum, lleg\u00f3 un intenso a\u00f1o de promoci\u00f3n que comenz\u00f3 con un concierto celebrado en el famoso 100 Club de Londres, con una gran afluencia de p\u00fablico, y al que le siguieron varias actuaciones por Espa\u00f1a, Alemania y Holanda, todas ellas con un notable \u00e9xito.<\/div>\n

Paul concluy\u00f3 el a\u00f1o con una gira por toda Inglaterra, incluyendo 6 conciertos en el Royal Albert Hall, como invitado especial de Sting (en la gira de \u00e9ste \u00faltimo por nuestro pa\u00eds, tambi\u00e9n actu\u00f3 de telonero en algunas fechas), con el que Paul interpret\u00f3 un d\u00fao en cada una de sus actuaciones.<\/div>\n

Mientras tanto, a\u00fan encontr\u00f3 tiempo para su otra gran pasi\u00f3n: el f\u00fatbol. Le ofrecieron interpretar el himno nacional en Wembley en el partido de la Eurocopa de 1996 que enfrent\u00f3 a Inglaterra contra Escocia. Resultaron vencedores los ingleses, y convencidos de que el cantante les hab\u00eda tra\u00eddo buena suerte, le pidieron que volviese a cantar antes de cada partido de la selecci\u00f3n brit\u00e1nica pero Carrack ten\u00eda tantas actuaciones comprometidas que tuvo que rechazar esta oferta.<\/div>\n

Al finalizar la gira estaba tan feliz con el resultado y tan orgulloso de su trabajo “Blue Views” que se meti\u00f3 de nuevo en el estudio con los productores Toby Chapman y Gary Wallis para gestar el \u00e1lbum “Beatiful World”. Una de las canciones de este trabajo, “The Way I’m Feeling Tonight” fue compuesta por \u00e9l mismo junto a Graham Gouldman de 10cc. Tras finalizar este \u00e1lbum colabor\u00f3 en los trabajos de otros artistas como Elton John, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Simply Red o BB King. En 2000, public\u00f3 “Satisfy My Soul”, un \u00e1lbum que volv\u00eda a las ra\u00edces de la m\u00fasica que m\u00e1s quiere: el soul.<\/div>\n

Paul Carrack, is a British singer, musician and composer, born in Sheffield on April 22, 1951. As a child he discovered his great vocation: music; another of his passions is soccer. Today he remains a huge fan of Sheffield Wednesday. He began to play the drums in groups that were formed at school. When he was 16 he sold his drums and bought a Vox Continental organ. At 17, he set out to see the world and for a time he was traveling in Europe where to earn a living he played famous songs in places as exotic as the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Upon returning from Europe, he collaborated in the creation of a group called Warm Dust that emerged with some musicians who later, in 1973, would be part of Ace.<\/div>\n

With Ace, Carrack found his true place in the music world as he rose to prominence as a lead soloist and songwriter. Ace became a successful group with songs like “How Long” with which they managed to be number 1 in practically the whole world. After four years and three published albums the band disbanded.<\/div>\n

In 1980, he was offered to replace Jools Holland as keyboardist for the group Squeeze. The definitive consecration as a soloist came to him with the album “Blue Views” recorded in January 1995 and with which he touched 100,000 copies sold in Spain. That disc included, among others, the singles “How Long” (a new adaptation) and “Eyes of Blue” that was part of the soundtrack of “When Saturday Comes”, a film based on the world of British football and starring Sea Bean and Emily Lloyd. Also featured was an adaptation of a classic Eagles song, “Love Will Keep Us Alive,” which Carrack wrote for Californians. After the release of that album, an intense year of promotion came that began with a concert held at the famous 100 Club in London, with a large influx of public, and which was followed by several performances in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, all of them with remarkable success.<\/div>\n

Paul concluded the year with a tour throughout England, including 6 concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, as a special guest of Sting (on the latter’s tour of our country, he also acted as the opening act on some dates), with which Paul performed a duo in each of their performances.<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, he still found time for his other great passion: soccer. He was offered to perform the national anthem at Wembley in the 1996 European Championship match between England and Scotland. The English were victorious, and convinced that the singer had brought them good luck, they asked him to sing again before each match of the British team but Carrack had so many compromised performances that he had to reject this offer.<\/div>\n

At the end of the tour he was so happy with the result and so proud of his work “Blue Views” that he went back into the studio with producers Toby Chapman and Gary Wallis to create the album “Beatiful World”. One of the songs on this album, “The Way I’m Feeling Tonight” was composed by himself with 10cc’s Graham Gouldman. After finishing this album he collaborated in the works of other artists such as Elton John, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Simply Red or BB King. In 2000, he released “Satisfy My Soul”, an album that went back to the roots of the music he loves most: soul.<\/div>\n
