Es un cantante y compositor estadounidense pentecostal. La mayor\u00eda de sus interpretaciones musicales pertenecen a los g\u00e9neros gospel y soul. Ha sido vastamente reconocido por fusionar estos diferentes estilos musicales entre s\u00ed, logrando la uni\u00f3n de lo secular con lo religioso. Durante los a\u00f1os 1970s obtuvo su mayor \u00e9xito, convirti\u00e9ndose en uno de los m\u00fasicos con m\u00e1s superventas de esa \u00e9poca.\u200b En el a\u00f1o 2008, Green recibi\u00f3 un premio por toda su trayectoria art\u00edstica llamado Lifetime Achievement Award durante el evento de premiaci\u00f3n BET Awards.\u200b Su estilo vocal ha sido descrito como un \u00e1spero y c\u00e1lido bar\u00edtono y un et\u00e9reo falsetto.<\/p>\n

is an American Pentecostal singer and songwriter. Most of his musical performances belong to the gospel and soul genres. He has been widely recognized for fusing these different musical styles with each other, achieving the union of the secular with the religious. During the 1970s he achieved his greatest success, becoming one of the best-selling musicians of that time. In 2008, Green received a Lifetime Achievement Award called the Lifetime Achievement Award during the BET Awards. His vocal style has been described as a rough, warm baritone and an ethereal falsetto.<\/p>\n

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed him at number 65 on its list of the hundred best and immortal artists of all time.<\/p>\n

Greene began his musical career when he was nine years old, in a quartet known as the Greene Brothers, in the company of his brothers Robert, Walter and William. However, his father expelled him from the musical group because Albert listened to the music of Jackie Wilson and because he expressed his interest in starting a musical career.<\/p>\n

In 1969, Greene began his nightclub solo career and adopted the stage name Al Green. At one of his performances in Midland, he had the opportunity to meet the trumpeter and vice president of record label Hi Records, Willie Mitchell, who after seeing Green’s performance was impressed and invited him to Memphis to make a musical album together. Mitchell had predicted Green’s success, and encouraged him to seek his own style of voice, at a time when the young artist sought to imitate his musical idols who were Jackie Wilson, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and Sam Cooke.<\/p>\n
