Andr\u00e9 Previn naci\u00f3 en una familia jud\u00eda de Berl\u00edn. Emigr\u00f3 con su familia a los Estados Unidos en 1938 huyendo del r\u00e9gimen nazi.<\/div>\n

He emigrated with his family to the United States in 1938 fleeing the Nazi regime.3 He obtained American citizenship in 1943, settled in Los Angeles, and began his career in 1948 arranging and composing music for Hollywood films. For many years he worked in the music department of Metro Goldwyn Mayer, directed by Arthur Freed.<\/div>\n

In the late 1950s, he made records as a jazz pianist that appeared mostly on the Contemporary Records label. He collaborated with Shelly Manne and Benny Carter. His album with Manne with songs from My Fair Lady (1956) was a huge success.<\/div>\n

In 1967, Previn was appointed conductor of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the following year of the London Symphony Orchestra, with which he recorded numerous prestigious records. Other orchestras with which he collaborated closely included the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2002 to 2006 he was musical director of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/div>\n
