Fue hija de Romeu Costa, un hombre de car\u00e1cter silencioso y de Ercy Carvalho Costa, persona de car\u00e1cter fuerte. Su carrera se inici\u00f3 a los 7 a\u00f1os de edad, en 1952, en una emisora de radio local, pero no pudo abrir la boca, debido al p\u00e1nico esc\u00e9nico que, aparentemente, no pudo superar en ese momento.<\/div>\n

Cuatro a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s volvi\u00f3 a probar suerte y particip\u00f3 en el programa de radio para ni\u00f1os O Clube do Gur\u00ed en la Radio Farroupilha. As\u00ed logr\u00f3 su primer contrato profesional.<\/div>\n

En 1959 fue contratada por R\u00e1dio Ga\u00facha y al a\u00f1o siguiente viaj\u00f3 a R\u00edo de Janeiro, donde firm\u00f3 su primer contrato con la empresa discogr\u00e1fica Grava\u00e7\u00f5es El\u00e9tricas y grab\u00f3 su primer LP, Viva a Brotol\u00e2ndia. Con esta empresa realiz\u00f3 en 1962 su segundo LP, titulado “Poema de Amor”. M\u00e1s tarde, sus afamados promotores, Luiz Carlos Miele y el compositor Ronaldo B\u00f4scoli, la vieron partir a S\u00e3o Paulo donde su carrera continu\u00f3 en ascenso. En 1965 lanz\u00f3 un LP con Jair Rodrigues, Dois na bossa, el cual fij\u00f3 un r\u00e9cord de ventas nacional. Desde ese mismo a\u00f1o, condujo junto a Jair Rodrigues uno de los m\u00e1s importantes programas de televisi\u00f3n de la m\u00fasica popular brasile\u00f1a, O Fino da Bossa.<\/div>\n

A finales de los a\u00f1os sesenta y principios de los setenta, Regina ayud\u00f3 a popularizar el trabajo del movimiento Tropicalia, grabando canciones de m\u00fasicos como Gilberto Gil.<\/div>\n

La artista contrajo matrimonio con Ronaldo B\u00f4scoli de cuyo matrimonio tuvo a su primer hijo, Jo\u00e3o Marcelo B\u00f4scoli Carvalho, nacido dos a\u00f1os antes de la separaci\u00f3n final. Para entonces, Elis Regina se hab\u00eda enamorado de su pianista, C\u00e9sar Camargo Mariano, quien era casado. Poco despu\u00e9s, contrajeron matrimonio y tuvieron a Pedro Camargo Mariano y Maria Rita Mariano, quien logr\u00f3 ser una cantante de mucha popularidad.<\/div>\n

En una entrevista en 1969, critic\u00f3 abiertamente al Gobierno brasile\u00f1o calific\u00e1ndolo como “una camarilla de gorilas”. Su popularidad la mantuvo fuera de prisi\u00f3n, pero finalmente fue obligada por las autoridades a cantar el himno nacional de Brasil durante las Olimpiadas del ej\u00e9rcito, lo que fue rechazado por muchos brasile\u00f1os simpatizante de izquierda.<\/div>\n

Luego recorri\u00f3 Mil\u00e1n, Roma, Par\u00eds y Barcelona en gira art\u00edstica, declarando que el p\u00fablico europeo necesitaba entender que Brasil no era un simple pueblo de Carnaval.<\/div>\n

She was the daughter of Romeu Costa, a man with a silent character, and Ercy Carvalho Costa, a person with a strong character. Her career began at the age of 7, in 1952, at a local radio station, but she couldn’t open her mouth, due to stage fright that she apparently couldn’t overcome at the time.<\/div>\n

Four years later she tried her luck again and participated in the children’s radio program O Clube do Gur\u00ed on Radio Farroupilha. She thus achieved her first professional contract.<\/div>\n

In 1959 she was hired by R\u00e1dio Ga\u00facha and the following year she traveled to Rio de Janeiro, where she signed her first contract with the record company Grava\u00e7\u00f5es El\u00e9tricas and recorded her first LP, Viva a Brotol\u00e2ndia. The artist married Ronaldo B\u00f4scoli from whose marriage she had her first child, Jo\u00e3o Marcelo B\u00f4scoli Carvalho, born two years before the final separation. By then, Elis Regina had fallen in love with her pianist, C\u00e9sar Camargo Mariano, who was married. Shortly after, they got married and had Pedro Camargo Mariano and Maria Rita Mariano, who became a very popular singer.<\/div>\n

In an interview in 1969, she openly criticized the Brazilian government as “a clique of gorillas.” Her popularity kept her out of prison, but she was eventually forced by the authorities to sing the Brazilian national anthem during the Army Olympics, which was rejected by many Brazilian leftist sympathizers.<\/div>\n

She later toured Milan, Rome, Paris and Barcelona on an artistic tour, declaring that the European public needed to understand that Brazil was not a simple Carnival town.<\/div>\n
