Throughout his childhood, he was interested in singing and singing at family functions, but he was so shy that he only sang behind a curtain or with the lights off. However, it was not singing, that was his greatest interest. The sport was much more important to him, and by age 13 he was a pretty good boxer. Frank always claimed that it was boxing in the boys’ clubs that got him on the straight and narrow. Because of this, he always had strong connections with boys’ clubs and became their patron, donating royalties to them throughout his career.

At 17 years old, Frank was singing in the army and after his return just before 20 years old. After entering a series of talent shows, Frank realized he could make a living singing and auditioned for London’s top agent Billy Marsh. Marsh was impressed and booked Frank for several shows, which in turn resulted in more work. By the mid-1950s, Frankie Vaughan was one of the biggest names in the business with hits like ‘Green Door’, ‘Garden of Eden’, ‘Give Me the Moonlight’ and ‘Come Softly to Me’. This was just the beginning of his long career. He soon began a series of movies including ‘Lady Is a Square’ and ‘Heart of a Man’. With her career flying high, Frankie was asked to star in a big Hollywood movie called ‘Lets Make Love’ with Marilyn Monroe, and after that she did ‘The Right Approach’ With Juliet Prowse. Tired of movies, he returned to England and continued his string of hits with a number one hit called ‘Tower of Strength’, followed by ‘Don’t Stop – Twist’ and even more hits.

By 1967, however, the steamer had begun to run out of its chart run. Frankie was still making a lot of records and doing a lot of sold-out shows, but still decided to switch labels and go to Columbia Records. At Columbia, he recorded a song called ‘There Must Be a Way’, which rose into the top ten and rejuvenated his career. After a few follows, however, his run on the chart was over. Around this time, he began to record more albums. He had neglected the album early in his career; now he went back and did There Must Be a Way, The Second Time Around, Mr. Moonlight, ‘Frankie’, ‘Frankie Vaughan Sing Song’, and many others, which sold relatively well. In 1975, Frankie moved to Pye Records and began another string of successful albums, beginning with Sincerely Yours in 1975 and continuing through Seasons for Lovers in 1977. This is the last time Frankie had a long-term recording contract. Around this time, he had one last successful album on the Ronco Teleproducts label; his 100 Golden Greats charted in 1977 around the same time he was given his own television show, which ran for a summer season.

Over the years, Frankie was always stronger on stage and was constantly exhausted wherever he went. His name on the billboards would guarantee a sellout. He was an immense artist who seemed to have the love of the audience and his fellow artists. In the 1980s, he performed on stage in the critically acclaimed musical ’82nd Street’ before he had to retire due to poor health. From then on, things slowed down, he toured often but wasn’t as prevalent.

In his life he achieved many things, including the record number of appearances on ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’ (four times in one month), and becoming King Rat twice, in 1967 and 1997. Sadly, in 1999 Frankie died and The world lost a great artist.

Discografia

Genero Rock, Pop

N°

Escuchar Tema

1

Happy Go Lucky

2

Chattanooga Choo Choo

3

Shoe-Shine Boy

4

You’re Driving Me Crazy (What Did I Do?)

5

Do-do-do

6

Hit The Road To Dreamland

7

East Of The Sun (And West Of The Moon)

8

I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter

9

I’m Coming Virginia

10

Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen (Means That You’re Grand)

11

Lazy River

12

Dream

13

Stars In Your Eyes

14

June Night

15

I’ll Build A Stairway To Paradise

16

It All Depends On You

17

Isn’t This A Lovely Evening

18

Kewpie Doll

19

Am I Wasting My Time On You

20

That’s My Doll

21

No Help Wanted

22

Come Softly To Me

23

The Green Door

24

Give Me The Moonlight, Give Me The Girl

25

Happy Days And Lonely Nights

26

Medley

27

When You’re Smiling

28

Bye Bye Blackbird

29

Toot Toot Tootsie Goo’bye

30

Let Me Sing And I’m Happy

31

Cecilia

32

On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep

33

Roamin’
